Only one poster on this page capitalized a form of the word "atheist" when it wasn't the first word in a sentence or part of a title. That person made a grammatical error.

Atheists and grammarians and probably a lot of religious people know that atheism is not a religion, but the lack of religious belief.

Autocorrect capitalizes it. My autocorrect learned to write god with lower case.

Of course there's also the Atheist cabal that is infiltrating the DCUM religious forum with subtleties such as capitalizing Atheism as if it were a legitimate religion.

Soon the influence of this insidious trick will be realized as droves of DCUM readers are converted to Atheism!

Then again, Atheists don't knock on doors, stand on street corners, sell indulgences, threaten hell or promise heaven. Capitalizing Atheism seems pretty benign in comparison.

My god, they've figured us out! We atheists (or, Atheists) need some new tricks!

MWAHAHA!

Don't be ridiculous. Both God and god are acceptable variants of the same word.

Not to a new phone. It has to learn the preference.

Capitalizing “atheism”? Who cares!

It’s the way you guys try to derail every thread on “where can I find a church that meets XYZ criteria” and “pray for me” and basically anything to do with Christianity (never Judaism or Islam) that’s totally disruptive and unproductive.

But you knew that.

I truly doubt these antics are converting a single person. More likely, you’re putting people off atheists and contributing to the dislike you bemoan and like to feel victimized about.

atheist PP here. Sure, some atheists are assholes who seem to think everyone must know exactly how much they think religion sucks. But I'm not and i'll wager a lot of us aren't. unfortunately all of us, including the religious, have asshole fellow believers/non believers right amirite

15:13 here. Yes, you’re right, and we religious folk have plenty among us who are jerks online and off. I was just pushing back on the ideas that (a) the assholery is limited to capitalizing Atheism, or (b) anybody here is responding to said assholery by doing anything besides rolling their eyes.

Should even clarify that I don’t even think capitalizing atheism is assholery. It’s a non-issue to me. Let’s talk trolling and disrupting threads, and I’ll start to care.

It's much simpler. I believe that there is no god or any higher power. I don't think about, it is not a part of my life.

Actually this is a good argument for believing, too. If God used his powers to make us do exactly what he wants from us, then we’d all basically be robots
without free will or anything we like to call “humanity.” I like a little ambiguity in my religion.

There's been no attempt here to convert anyone. This thread was started by someone wanting to know how people became atheist. If you read through the responses, you'll see that no one was converted by an atheist trying to influence them. They became atheists on their own.

Right. But one of the PPs in the block of quotes you responded to claimed that “droves of DCUM readers” had been converted to atheism, which is wishful thinking.

Actually, that was a joke.

Plus, the joke didn't say DCUM readers "had been" converted, but made the hilarious claim that simply capitalizing Atheist would be enough to influence them to become atheist.
