Why is everyone from Utah so nice and friendly?

Mormans are awesome neighbors.

They are kind, neighborly and supportive.

If I had to design my ideal street it would be an equal balance of mormons (kind, civic minded and neighborly) and Catholic (fun, self deprecating, and social), with Jews, Persians, Japanese, midwest blacks, Texans and Australians in the mix. That would be one awesome, fun and neighborly street to live on.

Throw in some.military too that have moved a lot and know how to build networks quickly and host great parties. Perfection.

I bet you don't comprehend how racist all of you sound.

Plus what a liar. White liberals make what they want happen by living in surgically segregated neighborhoods and schools. It's easy to be verbally inclusive when effectively zero of the downsides of diversity effect your life or children. The reason the south has more racial hostility is that people actually live and school together with resulting natural cultural friction. Northeastern white liberals will not tolerate such a disorderly diverse environment .

Very true.

Unless you're gay or black.

Yep. A relative left a lucrative position and awesome house to get away from the intolerance.

"Midwest blacks" meet her criteria, but no others. Too bad if you have a Ph.D. from HYP and originate east of the Appalachians or west of the Rockies. Absolutely no need to apply if you live within 50 miles of the Cotton Belt.
No Koreans, Filipinos, or southeast Asians.
My guess is the Texans she envisions are white.
And she probably doesn't mean the Greek or Asian Australians.

Same here! I'm black and I have many LDS friends. My neighbor is LDS and has the best social gatherings. I also know quite a few black women who are married to men who are Mormon. They are all happy and have wonderful families. It's refreshing to be around happy people. Who wants to be around negative and miserable people? Nice and friendly works for me.
amen

Are you African American black or immigrant group black? I ask because my Mormon coworker said that his parents had no problem with intermarrying or adopting non-AA blacks (from Africa or the Caribbean), but felt AA were not a good fit with their family and friends.

Some people prefer Africans from Africa over AA. No big deal. Different cultures.

Um...that's a big deal. Imagine telling your child it's okay to marry a Swede or Russian, but no Irish or Italians.

Some Italians from Italy think Italian American culture is a joke. Jersey shore, Guidos, etc...

Some people from England do not care for Americans.

It is no big deal. Really.

Some Mexicans from Mexico do not really care for the Mexican Americans.

My experience living in SLC. Most (not all) Mormon families are very kind. Very hardworking. And very tolerant. Most are embarrassed by their churches history of racism. Similar to how I feel as a southern girl. I hate that racism was so prevalent and accepted in the past. It certainly doesn't describe me or my family now. Same with most Mormon people.

Mormons can seem very closed to non-Mormons, but it's not intentional. Everything in their lives is wrapped up in their church. Their sports, kids' activities, social groups, etc. are all Church related. They spend a TON of time at church. There just just isn't much time leftover for anything else. Of course they develop close bonds with other Mormon families. They are often together every single day.

It is still stereotyping! Everyone would have a fit if an AA poster wrote that he or she really dislikes white or Asian people. Or said that "Christians Whites are okay, but I don't care for Jews."
