Why is everyone from Utah so nice and friendly?

This is what I've heard. People are incredibly pleasant in a superficial way, but unless you are one of them (mormon) it's very hard to make a friend.

This is very true. And if you're not Mormon don't try to conduct business in Utah.

Nothing is wrong with it, and nobody has said that there is.

OK, so what does PP mean when she says not every family should look like this?

I'm the PP who said that I didn't think that every family should look like the family in the picture. What I meant was, I don't think that every family should look like the family in the picture. Do you think that every family should look like the family in the picture?

No, of course not. And not everyone in Utah, nor every Mormon, DOES look like that...so, pretty stupid comment.

Sure. But the picture is from an LDS publication.

Black woman here with LDS friends ... I'm still alive and kicking and not enslaved in their basements. Uh oh, some are even in interracial marriages.

So an LDS publication had a picture of a family wearing matching shirts. Oh noes!!!

I remember when the LDS church changed its opinion on black men in the priesthood in 1978, and I'm not even LDS or from Utah.

My LDS friends say that yes, the church has issues with race.

What is it about Utah that makes people from there so nice?

Nice weather with lot's of outdoor activities. Values and family seem to be stronger than some other parts of the country.

Seriously though, Utah is a kind of intolerant place. Look at the recent fights for LGBT rights, and the resulting "compromise". And women's rights aren't exactly held in high regard there either.

Exactly. Also, everyone looks like this:

Old dude's got three wives but what about the young dudes?

LDS loves the entire world including Africa.

Haven't you seen Book of Mormon? Whenever they have a negative thought or feeling, they just repress it, stuff that back deep inside and "turn it off"

Same here! I'm black and I have many LDS friends. My neighbor is LDS and has the best social gatherings. I also know quite a few black women who are married to men who are Mormon. They are all happy and have wonderful families. It's refreshing to be around happy people. Who wants to be around negative and miserable people? Nice and friendly works for me.

One of the best bosses I've ever had was Morman. Very family-friendly -- gave me a great deal on paid maternity leave and a flexible schedule when my baby was little, then gave me a promotion.

Yeah, and he's got his favorite wife on his shoulders. The young dudes are just good friends. They'll find wives soon.

Black person from Utah here. Mormons value being decent people. If you're ever in need people will rally and go out of their way to make sure you're taking care of. After a becoming a new mother, different people in the community will bring you a gourmet meal every single day for up to 3 weeks. They value family, so adults do their part to make sure kids feel supported and encouraged. They have a selfless commitment to the community and hardworking as well. They happily support their wives and family. The percentage of mormon working women is very low. I am not saying they're perfect, but they have good intentions.
