Very late watching this and I have very mixed feelings.

High school can be awful. And people respond in very different ways. It is crushing to me as a parent that Hannah's parents were pretty good and obviously loved her, yet she did not reach out to them. And there was a light at the end of the tunnel -- end of high school. Aside from the two rapes and the car crash (it really did pile on at the end!), the rest of the things seemed typical from my high school experience, I'm afraid to say. Friends ditching each other, shitty/neglectful/abusive parents to some kids, heavy drinking and sexual assault. I remember not really caring about that stuff in high school because I had some serious home life drama going on, and so the drinking and mean remarks and lists (yes, we had lists too), and guys who took advantage, it didn't really rate for me personally. I remember people telling me that high school was the best time of my life and feeling like that was the most depressing thing ever. I am glad most people don't commit suicide over this stuff.

I also have a brother who killed himself. I have a ton of guilt, and while I agree that you should be kind and be there for people, that is not enough sometimes. The kids kept saying that if she had only had one friend, she would not have killed herself. I don't believe that. What about Tony? It was unclear what his deal was, but he was her friend. I think one friend probably couldn't have saved her. What might have saved her is some really good mental health support. Something obviously lacking in both the show and this country. I think it would have been helpful if the show explored how mental health resources could have benefited her versus just the luck that some kid at school could do all of the heavy lifting.

There better not be a school shooting next season. That would be over the top. And I thought that Alex's picture was taken down because the photographer remembered that Alex had been nice - that was the memory that popped up right before the picture came down.
