You clearly haven't been to the Giant in McLean or the Harris Teeter in Arlington. |
I am from midwest farm country, my relatives still own several farms. Growing up I never heard the n-word except in movies. The first time I heard it in real life I was on a bus in DC, and it was said by a black person. |
Hah. I'm from the Midwest and recently had my emotionality compared to a "dial tone." I don't get very high when things are good, and I don't get very low when things are bad. I'm steady -- which makes me a pretty good household partner, but if you're looking for emotional expressiveness, I'm not particularly your guy. |
We too have lived all over the country and I have to say the midwest guys are the nicest. They must have good mothers! I worked in investment banking and the bankers in Chicago were totally different than the ones in NYC. All bankers are ambitious but NY bankers thought they were big swinging you know whats. |
| married to a midwesterner. He is calm, practical and responsible. Not blinded by DC ambition. But the keeping in shape part? Um no, too many brats and deep dish pizza in his life... |
| I went to MS and HS north of Chicago and then to college on the East Coast. The midwest guys were much nicer and I eventually married one. He's not the fit football player he once was but he's still in good shape. |
| We lived in the NY area for a long time and then my DH get transferred to Chicago. Initially he was surprised by the less intense business climate but over time he got use to it and it became a very good influence on his life. He concluded that the people work smarter and not harder because they want a life outside of work. |
What do you mean when you say “Michigan doesn’t count by the way?” |
| Horrible table manners |
Yeah- I only shop at Whole Foods. |
| LOL OP you clearly did not spend years living in rural Ohio. I am from Midwestern farm country. If you want a man who voted for Trump and is a cop or works construction, it’s a great place to look. If not, yes, you do need to try a bigger city - of which the Midwest has several of, as do other parts of the country. Life is not a Hallmark movie. |
My dad is from the Northeast and is like this. He grew up receiving aid and was smart so he was given scholarships. He never forgot his roots. He was always for the underdog and treated the janitor the same as superiors at work. To this day, I can’t step in my office without the security guard, clerks or janitors ask after my dad and tell me a story about how he helped them. He was always modest and didn’t like braggarts. He always told us “when you get to the end zone, you want to act like you’ve been there before”. But, he was from the Silent Generation -1941. |
| You need to get out more. (After COVID) |
| I agree we are the best because of sincerity, honesty, respect. We are not perfect but many of us strive to improve. But, I don't see any women here in the DMV appreciate it--not even the ones from the mid-west. Been single for 3-years since my divorce (from Ex who falsely accused me of domestic violence). |
Exactly right as far as urban centers on these areas. |
