NCS girls fianlly allowed to attend STA homecoming on their own, without a date

Perhaps you can't replicate exchanging flowers and posing for photos with a date, but that doesn't mean you can't go to what is basically a big party with your friends and have fun. Especially if the alternative is sitting home and perusing all of those photos of the other girls and their dates.

It's not like people who go stag prevent people who have dates from having fun at the dance, or vice versa. As long as everyone's having fun, however they arrive to the dance, the "status" of the attendees should be irrelevant.

I dunno. Perusing through my DD's social media, there did seem to be something special and memorable about a girl's date unveiling the corsage, or a girl pinning on the boutonnière without drawing too much blood. Lots of happy faces in those pictures. Really can't be replicated if dateless.

Yuck, yuck, yuck. why do parents continue to support such silly, sexist traditions??

Most of the photos I see from HoCos on Instagram are group shots or kids with buddies - with a few of the date ones sprinkled in BUT lots of non-date photos. I dont think kids today are nearly as caught up in all of this as some of their parents are.

Why send your child to NCS, an all girls school, if you feel girls can only be happy if on a date? Honestly.

I agree. My daughter went with 10 friends and they had a blast. Unless you are dating the guy or just really want to hang out with friends, going to a dance just to be with a date is awkward for everyone.

Walt Whitman got rid of the Homecoming court. BCC made it open to two people with the most votes - doesn't have to be a queen/king. The student council and committees of these schools have so much more of a say in their school, than the board of a stuffy private school.

From what I can see, most schools in this area, private AND public, still have some sort of end of the year prom that is formal or semi-formal and a date-oriented event. That type of event is still part of the culture and the kids I know still seem to like it, at least as an occasional feature of the school social landscape. Perhaps that will change but there's where we are now for both public and private schools. (Ban the prom and, as we all saw in that great 80s documentary "Footloose," the kids will have their own proms in the nearest grain warehouse.)

It seems the NCS girls and their mothers had a deeper vested interest in the STA homecoming than the boys!

WHY??

Eaxactly! They are not combined schools. If you wanted a co-ed school with a old-school homecoming, go to another school. The STA boys were fine without the NCS complaints/whines.

As an STA mom (and not an NCS mom) I have to say, this is a stupid statement. Really, PP, give me a break. Teenage girls always care more about dances and such than teenage boys. And it is natural that NCS girls have opinions about and a desire to be invited to STA dances. They are sibling schols and share the close. You all need to stop being so mean and nasty.

I don't think that's accurate.

The moms because they are reliving their youth, but trying to get it right this time...
