The schools announced this year that NCS girls now have reciprocal priveldges - STA boys have long been able to attend the NCS homecoming dance without a date. I think this is long past due and fantastic news!

Welcome to the 21st century!

I hope it's ok too for two STA boys to go together as dates, as well as two NCS girls.

Of course its okay! But none of them do it. Few highschool kids are that sure of their sexuailty and or secure enough to flaunt it. STA is actually a very, very accepting commuinity of boys about such things.

"Flaunt it"? Really? Going to a dance together is flaunting it?

Of course. Doing the exact same thing that hetero kids do is "flaunting it" and "rubbing it in our faces." Don't you know?

As for whether HIGH SCHOOLERS are secure enough in their sexuality to take a date to homecoming? I think PP needs to get out into the world. 16 year olds are pretty sure, as it turns out.

Dont be purposefully obtuse. Flaunt as in, going as a gay couple to a highschool dance takes more courage than going as a hetero couple. In highschool, proclaiming you are part of a couple at all is "Flaunting It." These days most tennagers like to keep their options open - whether that means dating more than one perosn or one sex is all that differs.

I think YOU are th eopne who needs to get out in 2016 PP. You live ina very backwards world if you think sexulaity is set and decided upon by the time you are 16.

Do you even remember being a teenager? I do. I remember that as a very open time sexually. I think lots of teenagers are still open to the question of whether they are bi, homo, straight or other. Top state other wise is to deny the realities of a teenager's biology and brain function. Most college kids are still open to trying new things too. Your teens and twenties are very open to exploratiopn of many things from sexuality to drugs to politcal positions, lifestyle choices, career paths - basically everything. Sexuality is ceratinly immutable by that age for some but not for all, not even close to all.

Do you know what "flaunt" means? If so, you may understand why you sound so crazily retro. Here's one definition: "display (something) ostentatiously, especially in order to provoke envy or admiration or to show defiance." I don't think any teenager at any DC private thinks that two boys or two girls going to a dance is "flaunting" anything.

Isn't this going to create some friction between the girls who go stag and the girls who are dates of the STA boys?
