So who knows what happened. Sounds like the one car made an error and the other car was owned by a member of a group of people who hold speeding events on public roads.

Looks like that driver also has quite a record with reckless driving according to his court records.

Yes, not sure why posts referring to the other driver, Ogulkan Atakoglu, have been taken down from this thread. He posts on instagram all the time about drag racing cars. These are pix from his account:

Because in this accident he is a victim of a driver pulling in front of him, not the other way around.

He's not a victim if he was driving faster then the speed limit (45 mph), which is highly likely.

Exactly. Highly likely the left turn was being made properly, anticipating normal speed of oncoming traffic. One driver going 70+ completely blows those calculations. I hope a camera somewhere caught the oncoming driver's speed somewhere along the road.

One incident for speeding on 495 and one incident that was dismissed... Really that is it... Sorry but he was the victim.

It's so Bethesda to want to blame others and not take responsibility. The dad pulled in front of a car. It is a tragic mistake.

How about you hunt real criminals in Bethesda... Another parent sponsored drinking party last night would be a good start.

How dare you say this? You are assigning blame to someone and you have no idea what happened. None of us do yet. This portion of the Bethesda community is trying to come to grips with this today. As far as anyone knows, drinking had nothing to do with it. Three people are dead. Blaming "Bethesda" just shows how petty you are.

I am not being flippant, but in Maryland will he get lucky like Ethan Couch? Obviously, at this time we don't know if there was alcohol or who will be determined to be at fault, but is the "affluenza" defense available in MoCo?

2016 Volt makes me wonder if (i) the driver knew how to handle an electric vehicle, or (ii) there was an issue with the car. It's not like GM is known for its quality control. I don't doubt the BMW driver was speeding - but the speed limit there is 50 right? So 60 or 70 even isn't unusual. Until the investigation is complete there isn't anything anyone should assume other than tragic accident.

+1 Given his history of dangerous driving, this possibility should be considered.
