Agree with PP- I think given 1) the issues in PS being a hot mess in some parent’s eyes there will be more applying who normally would not and also some kids who would leave for public after K-8 are going to instead stay Catholic for HS, and 2) given all the talk re: disparities some schools are going to try to open the door to non-traditional kids.
If there is another deadline you can make it might be prudent. |
If it’s like the schools we applied to last year (I have a girl), each coach gets to put in a few names. If you haven’t had contact with swim coach yet, be sure you do. |
| I think Prep is more a swim school than Gonzaga. |

I fear that applications to all private schools are going to be way up this year. Public high school does not look like it will happen this fall and many folks are hedging their bets. Also - recall that the the area catholic middle schools are packed to the rim with transfers - who came from public and now figured last fall moving their child for 8th grade will help Catholic HS admission.
I am worried! Best of luck to each and every child out there!!! |
| Just like all the changes at TJ, I imagine what worked for admissionsat these schools in previous year may not be the the same for this year.... |
| This is the poster with the kid who got a 96 on the HSPT (97 math), straight As, swimmer/tennis player - we just go a letter from scholarship letter from BI. Although BI is his 2nd choice, it's a good feeling. 10K over 4 years. He really wants to go to Gonzaga. There's always applying sophomore year if he doesn't get in. |
| Congrats! Hope it turns out the way you’d like. |
He has a very good chance. Try not to worry! Those stats make him an excellent candidate. |

It is not an admissions test, it is a placement test, hsPt P for Placement, meaning that it determines which classes your child will be in when he or she attends the school. This is what I was told when I expressed concerns about my DC's low score. They didn't seem at all concerned about DC gaining admission, and they have a long record of being a feeder school to DC's first HS choice.
I've found that Catholic schools in this area really don't focus as much on getting the top scoring students, otherwise why even are there "regular" "honors" "college prep" levels of English, Math, etc., which all have similar number of students per class? The schools are looking for other things, either children of alumni, or good teacher recommendations, or good athletes, and yes, good students as well, but they are not trying to just pick a class full of 99th %ile students. Best of luck everyone! |
That is true of every school that has a non-honors track. People on here just don't want to believe it for some reason. |
I'm sure BI is happy to hear this. |
It's not personal. |
Hoping Catholic high schools give more weight to applicants that have been at Catholic schools for K-8 first? |
Why on earth would OP post all of these details? The school administrators are on this site! |
Right. This is very odd. I'm sure Gonzaga and BI have read this by now. |
