The great shirt debate: house rules for boys?

+1, unless there is company

Sometimes I require the boys to take their shirts off to eat dinner when it's just us. If they are wearing nice shirts and we're sitting down to spaghetti, off they go. Once they go into puberty and have body hair, I'm sure I won't be down with that anymore! Young and hairless? Who cares.

We let our daughter who is 8 1/2 go naked at home.

I think if the girl has to wear shirt, so should the boys. Dudes lounging topless, or exercising without shirts, is so . . . . ugly, tacky, unnecessary.

I don't even wear pants when at home. Why would I enforce they wear a shirt? DS1 and DS2 never have a shirt on when at home. They have to at least wear their boxers, that's the only rule. DD2 often walks around in a sports bra and shorts. I don't care, TBH. We're at home!

I have a family member with 4 boys under 8. They do not GAF and let them all run around naked, including on the front lawn (small town). I hate going to their house.

Would you be okay with DDs not wearing anything on top?

Pedophiles would love that.

+1.

DH, DS 17 and DS 14, never wear shirts around the house even in winter. DD 15 has never made a comment about it, as she has grown up with them always being shirtless. Your home should be the one place you are always comfortable and I don’t understand why anyone would care about bare chested guys.

Bums have to be covered to sit down.

And no naked bums in the kitchen.

I think it would annoy a lot of men. Starting about 12 years old hopefully they can find lightweight t-shirts. They start to smell and sweat at this age.

DH always wears gym shorts but DS 17 and DS 14 usually just go around the house in their boxer briefs

Clothes are so comfortable these days. There is just no excuse not to wear at least a cotton t shirt. At all times.

My DH, DS 17 and DS 14 would all disagree and would argue that being bare chested is far more comfortable. Again, why should a man or boy need to wear a t-shirt in their own house, if they don’t want to?
