The great shirt debate: house rules for boys?

Both my husband and 14 year old son always wear some sort of shirt at all times, except when they are in the process of looking for a shirt to put on. I think going around shirtless is low class, and we don't have to go through the trouble to enforce it because they don't feel comfortable walking around without a shirt unless they are at the pool or beach.

+1

Guess we are low class. Oh, well.

This. Gees. They’re at home.

We are too. Never change DCUM. Thinking about who’s low class while being alone in their homes.

+1 in the home everyone's comfort should be incorporated. This strikes the compromise. Do what you want in your room, in family areas you need to follow family rules. I agree with your DH that the family rule is shirts on.

So isn’t op’s husband. He should feel comfortable in his own home.

+1. If you had no girls or your DH didn’t care, shirts off is fine. But if anyone objects and it’s not an option for everyone, you need to rethink it. Why are there different rules for the boys?

I think the compromise of shirts at the table or when company is over is fine. One of our sons liked to go shirtless a lot, and it used to crack us up because he’d flex whenever he caught sight of himself in a mirror or window. When my mom visited, she would always hum “I’m too sexy for my shirt.” DD often is in a sports bra and very tiny shorts around the house. I don’t really understand why this or a shirtless boy would bother anyone.

My DAUGHTER likes to traipse about in the altogether in our house, OP, even when the house is at 64F in winter.

My SON is a very uptight, rule-follower, type of person.

I insist that the naked kid put on clothes, both top and bottom. If it was a boy, I would insist on a top as well.

I just wanted to point out that this is not a gender issue!!! It's highly irritating that people in this day and age still think like this.

Shirts required when eating and when guests are over

I keep my house at 66 and my teen boy is still hot but he wears a tee shirt and shorts.

Two boys here and oddly haven't had this problem and so have never considered it. I suppose I'd go with shirts required at the table and when guests are over, but that's about it.

I like the idea that if you are in the main living areas, you have something on top and bottom. If you are in your bedroom, it's up to you.

Also, shirts required to get on my expensive furniture.

Shirts are required for everyone in my house. period.

We aren't rednecks, nor do we live in a trailer.
