Several people were removed from Spirit Airlines flight NK969 after the plane was called back to the gate while taxiing off Tuesday morning, according to ABC7 reporter Suzanne Kennedy, who was on the flight. The flight was scheduled to leave from BWI to Chicago.

According to Kennedy, four passengers were initially removed from the flight, three males and one woman. They reportedly had several backpacks and appeared to be in their early 30's and of middle eastern descent.

Three additional passengers were subsequently called out from the loud speaker and removed from the plane.

The spokesman said the "suspicious activity" involved one of the male passengers viewing a news report on his smartphone. All four of the passengers were "very cooperative," according to the MTA spokesperson, and have been released.

We have become a nation of pants wetters. If you are of "middle eastern descent" (which I am on one side of my family), I suggest cancelling any planned flights for a while.

About six months before 9/11, I was on a cross -country flight where 4 Muslim men were acting suspiciously once in-flight. I told a flight attendant who had noticed it as well, and notified the pilot. I believe it was a practice flight. You know when something is not right

It this case, the only thing not right was the pants-wetting passenger's suspicions. In your case, there has never been a Muslim man who didn't appear suspicious.

And yet? 6 months later we lost thousands to 12 Muslim men. Was the flight attendant a pants wetting passenger as well? They had spread themselves around the first class cabin, spoke across people in Arabic, kept standing up at odd times, and glared at those who turned to look at them. This is BEFORE 9/11 mind you.

I am always amazed how you always have a friend, relative, or personal experience that applies to every single thing in the news. I just going to say that I think you are making this entire thing up and that possibly the only true part of the story is that you were on a plane with an Arab-looking guy who you thought was suspicious just as you would any other Arab-looking guy. On today's flight, the passengers were removed, questioned, and let go. Clearly, everyone involved with their removal from the aircraft was wrong.

What would an example of rational fear be? I assume it would be an objective instead of a subjective test?

Are you saying it's rational to think that someone reading the news on their phone while the plane is on the ground (which EVERYONE is doing now, especially now that they allow electronics to be used) is a threat?

Uhh...no. You referred to irrational fear. That suggests that there could be rational fears. Just wondering what an example would be. If you can't provide one, that's ok.

Not the pp but how about a woman carri g the BRAC gene afraid of getting cancer?

Sure, ok. Not sure how that would apply to see something, say something, though.

You asked for a rational fear. That's one. A rational fear for 'see something, say something'. A man in NC stopped at a rest stop and parked next to a camper. A woman was peering out the window, and something in her eyes gave him a hinky feeling. She did not try to get his attention or anything. He called the police anyway. Turns out she was indeed a kidnapped woman (about 22). He went on gut. He was correct.

Your example would seem to suggest reporting based on instinct. The applicable law here says otherwise. Your report must be made in good faith and based on the objective evidence. Good ending there, though.

After 9/11, I was concerned I would be removed from flights. Luckily I didn't have any issues. I suppose it is hard to look threatening when you are 5 feet tall. On one hand, I would have been pissed off if I was detained. On the other hand, I want to be safe and would be glad that people are keeping an eye out for anyone even remotely suspicious.

Exactly what do you suggest??

not pp, but gun control would be a nice start

Yes, Gun control. Just read this from Paris planner:

But Abaaoud – who goes under the nom de guerre Abu Umar Al-Baljiki – boasts despite his notoriety he was able to freely move around Europe.

Speaking during an interview published earlier this year about his trip to Belgium, he said: “We faced a number of trials during this journey.

“We spent months trying to find a way into Europe . . . we were then able to obtain weapons and set-up a safe house while we planned to carry out operations against the crusaders.”

PP above, sounds like typical Israeli behavior to me.... Are you sure that they weren't speaking Hebrew ?

I might wear a shirt naming my parish. It's all a mess. What do you suggest?

I suggest gold cross and a St Jospeh's medal on a gold chain, and a track suit with greased back hair... turn hubby into someone from South Philly.

When you have to rely on supposition, that's all you have. Otherwise, please go back and pull out every statement I've made and tell me why and how I 'made it up'. Otherwise, shut it.

There is nothing wrong with what happened on today's flight - it's always best to check things out. That poor girl at the NC bus stop would not have been rescued had one person not called in what looked odd to him. I'm sure they had stopped in many rest stops prior.

No need for dated stereotypes about South Philly.

As an Indian-American (and a Hindu), I find it absolutely amazing at how paranoid people get in this country. The terrorists create terror. It is a mind game more than a violence game.

We have lived with terrorism in India for a long time. Think how difficult it is to trace terrorists who come to India from neighboring countries for Indian security forces. These terrorists look like Indians, they speak our language, they don't have to cross an ocean to come to India. India is a country with a huge muslim population. If we start targeting muslims, we are targeting our own innocent citizens. Yet, while there is security checks everywhere in India - airports, malls etc...life goes on, in a normal, non-hysterical way.

As Americans, we need to be cautious but not paranoid. We are more resilient than we know. Yes, there will be and should be more security checks everywhere, but we cannot become irrational in our fears.
