Basis Mclean

I don't think this is the population they are targeting. Students with learning differences/disabilities will be better served elsewhere. Schools don't need to be all things to all people. It's okay to have a narrow specialty and do it well.

Doubtful, since it has a high school. But it will certainly compete well with TH. I can see a lot of parents looking into BASIS McLean who's children didn't get in to TJ or don't want to be part of the drill and kill environment.

Since I am sure this is a sincere post, what does the sales man is only out for profit mean?

What is TH? And what is "drill and kill"? Do you have personal experience or are you being fed lines?

TH is probably TJ. I have heard the same "drill and kill" term about TJ from former parents (and even TJ graduates), so there must be truth to it.

I have a very strong STEM student in a k-8 private in McLean. Basis is exactly what I'm looking for in a high school. We want to keep him in private but don't want to send him to DC. Potomac and Flint Hill don't have the focus we want. I hope this school lives up to the hype by the time we are ready to consider it.

I'm sure this student would have excelled almost anywhere, but FWIW http://blog.basisindependent.com/bklyn/basis-scottsdale-student-acknowledged-by-obama-for-disease-fighting-research

So arrogant

Not arrogant - 75% of the posts have been talking about what is or isn't going to be different between DC and McLean aside from the obvious one is a public school and one will be an independent school. Lots of opinions, speculation and comments from people who have gone to info sessions and parents from the DC school and even a former Basis DC teacher.

But the real answer is that no one really knows because Basis McLean does not exist yet and even the Basis Independent schools in other cities are brand new.

What does this even mean? BASIS McLean is accepting applications and started accepting/enrolling students. They also have a building and just posted construction pictures the other day on their Facebook page. This school fills a need--an upper independent school in McLean, and a prek-12 school in ONE building. Does Holton have that? Does Sidwell have that? I can't imagine taking my kids to two different schools and THEN going to work every morning. Ew.

In my mind a school that hasn't yet hired its teachers or enrolled a student doesn't really exist.

I was under the impression that Basis actually is very much about "drill and kill" themselves. To claim they do something better than TJ is rather unproven and subjective.

I love that Basis claims to be better than TJ even though TJ has a nationally known reputation for decades and BAsIS is a nobody besides some charter schools. Time will tell. But to call TJ "drill and kill". Their kids go and do top research, succeed in the best colleges, and ace AP exams. BASIS boasts a mediocre 3.50 score on their site. Sounds like they could use some "drill and kill".
