| Common people, have a break and stop polluting the board with horror stories if you even did not bother to go to the OH. This is a new school and it will be very strong competitor to all established ones (if not stronger) in terms of academics and other things. The fact that their administration is thin and they do not follow this board shall not be a factor in destroying the school reputation. Just look at the WP ratings which schools are strongest in the nation. You shall be happy that there is one more alternative opened in the area and perhaps one day universities in the U.S. will go back to strictly merit based enrollment to ensure nation's competitiveness. |
| What reputation? The school hasn't opened yet. A school is more than a name, a curriculum, and a lists of stats. A school is a community that needs to be nurtured. People have a right to information, not just advertisement. It's up to you to form your own opinions about what you read. |
Then why do people jump in with opinions on any other school here? I can think of another a school or three that this school basically would compete with where commenters k ow little about yet post negative statements even though they have never visited the school. It is the nature of DCUM to be snarky and rude, sadly. |
| Real educators don't compete. Nonprofit schools have no reason to. We want what is best for education. We want what is best for our students. |
| Basis isn't nonprofit. It's forprofit. |
| Exactly. Which is why they are so concerned with "competing". BASIS doesn't care about reforming education in America. They care about making money for their schools and their founders. They aren't educators, they're a business. |
| Which is why they have a sales man from New York. |
They're providing a service for those who want what they offer. It's called the free market. |
| Just like the cigarette companies. |
| Which is why only 20 kids have applied so far. |
| Wow...sounds like a big demand! Better build more of those "independent" schools! |
And you know this how? |
We definitely shouldn't mix business with education. We have a fine system of quasi-government run schools doing a spectacular job of preparing all students to be competitive in the world. |
Basis doesn't seem to have a problem taking money from the government to start their charter schools. Regardless, public schools can't pick and choose who they educate, so this isn't even something that you need to bring up for comparison. |
