What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Words from my mother. She is right.

That's just an advice.
It doesn't mean it's an universal truth.

If you love anyone more than yourself you'll suffer.

If I had to pick my child's life, or mine, which would I choose?
My child's of course.
And I'd "suffer" none.
On the other hand, if I had chose my life over my child's, I'd suffer until my last breath.
Is that just me?

It's really a silly comparison.

So, if there was a gun to you and your husbands head and someone had to get shot and you had to make the choice, who would it be?

I'd pretty much save any human life even if it meant giving up my own. That's what members of my family did in Poland during the Holocaust. It's what I come from.

C'mon people this is getting morbid and depressing-enough Sophie's Choice bullshit-let's get back to good advice.

If it happened to your Uncle like it happened to mine, you would not be calling it bullshit.

Keep your ears open and your mouth shut.

Opinions are better kept to yourself.

Be realistic and practical.

As I already said, most likely, yes, unless I could see that you actually were an evil person.
Your calling me nasty names, in itself, does not qiute make you an evil person.

One can only try to imagine what we'd do when confronted with life's most difficult situations.
I'd like to think I could also pick up a car off of a child if I needed to. I'd hope my sheer will, would give me the strengh required.

Everyone has different instincts. Some people wouldn't think twice about watching someone else in trouble if helping them meant taking some kind of risk for themselves; others couldn't live with themselves if they stood by and watched. I think we're born with these traits. I doubt they can be taught.

Throw money at the problem.

I know it sounds crass an materialistic, but we are a pretty frugal family. The idea is that we don't let things that can be fixed by money come between us, if we can afford it. if we're fighting, we get a babysitter and go out together to have time and space to work it out. If one of us resents cleaning the house, we hire someone, etc.
