I'm sure it's all a lot of bad luck and not a real reflection on the administration, but a murder, suicide cluster, Chem lab fire critically injuring students. Right now, Woodson seems jinxed. Can they get through a school year without a major tragedy? I'd avoid.

Woodson has a new principal.

Woodson had 5 students and a teacher injured in a bad idea chem experiment fire this week. Bad judgment and bad karma.

What kind of idiot posts nonsense about "bad karma" after something like this?

Someone who thinks that too many Woodson students are ending up dead or in the ICU for there to not be something seriously wrong at the school. Either the school has huge, systemic problems or an unprecedented degree of terrible luck. Personally, I would blame suicide clusters and a teacher performing an unnecessary science experiment know to cause flash fires a huge, systemic problem, but either way, I wouldn't want my kids going to school there.

Wow. So you're somehow linking suicides and an accident in the chem lab to one another. Unbelievable.

I'm thinking someone who paid $1M plus to get into McLean is now pissy that Woodson and its $500k houses has edged over them in the rankings.

And you would be wrong. Much younger kids in a completely different part of the county-- and no particular bone to pick with Woodson. But as a parent of kids that will one day be in HS, I find the amount of tragedy at Woodson in the last few years to be alarming. And think that one tragedy is an anomaly, but that Woodson has had way too many terrible things happen to be claiming "bad luck." I hope FCPS will be taking a long hard look to figure out what the he** is going on.

I hate to inform you, PP, but Woodson is not a lone suicide cluster. There are many HSs in FCPS with alarming suicides. It's a problem for the entire area. Not to scare OP, because suicide is a problem right now at many many HSs throughout the country.

Any suicides at herndon or south lakes high schools?

There was a suicide at South Lakes last year.

I have the same numbers and moved to Burke to be in the Lake Braddock pyramid. I love it here.

Woodson has the most, but there have been suicides at Langley, Fairfax, South Lakes, and Robinson in the last few years. Enough that FCPS has been given several thousand $$ in grant money to find out why. Here's a heartbreaking article about the girl at Fairfax.

+1. Also, if interested, you could apply for the immersion program at Laurel Ridge.

http://www.fcps.edu/dss/ips/dasp/VA-EpiAidQA.pdf

Preliminary data analyses showed that youth suicides were occurring at multiple high schools, and in October 2014 there were three youth suicides at three separate high schools. Based on this information and community goals to prevent all youth suicides, the Epi-Aid partners selected a county-wide approach to identify risk and protective factors for the county as well as unique to any particular school.
