It's doable... http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3287-Tayloe-Ct-Herndon-VA-20171/51761713_zpid/ |
YouMight be able to find a smaller single family home under $500k |

| You can still get some sfh's under $500k in Greenbriar. Walking distance to all 3 school levels, the library, parks and a shopping center. Close to fair lakes, fair oaks, Herndon, Reston, etc. |
Yep, this. I grew up in Greenbriar (GBW, Rocky Run, then TJ (base was Chantilly)). It ain't glamorous, but there's a great neighborhood pool and 100% sidewalk availability. |
| The pool is REALLY difficult to get a membership to these days. |

| Greenbriar is a great community. However, isn't it more than a 20 minute commute to Tyson's? |
With as bad as Tysons traffic is, you could live in freaking Pimmit Hills (that DCUM favorite!) and it would take 20 minutes to drive a couple miles down Rt. 7. |
| PP here. You know... I was be snarky in my previous post, but is Pimmit Hills possible for >$500k these days? Might be worth checking out. |
| I'd go with a townhouse in Burke. |
| I dont think West Springfield or Herndon or Burke are good areas. I guess its a matter of opinion. |
| You can only get a shoebox in pimmit for $550. And those are tear downs. |
I can't speak for Herndon but you obviously don't know what you are talking about regarding Burke or West Springfield. |
| Maybe you should rent for a while and decide for yourself. Buying and selling homes can get expensive. |
