What is your favorite tearjerker movie?

Incredibly Loud and Extremely Close Omg... I watched it for the first time last year, it is the only 9/11 movie I've ever had the stomach to watch, but that scene with the voicemails... I sobbed from there until the end.

I was just reminded of this movie by another thread and watched a few Youtube clips of my favorite scenes. I've seen this many times and there are still some amazing tear-jerking scenes. None so great as the finale when the adult Gertrude gives her speech.

Truly, Madly, Deeply

The Sessions (If you need a good cry, watch this one. Not sad so much as just really, really moving for so many reasons. I had to go sit on my porch by myself and cry for half an hour afterward.

Dancing at Lugnasa

The Grave of the Fireflies.

During WWII bombings of Tokyo, a boy flees with his little sister (their mother dies from her injuries, the father is away at war). They seek shelter in the countryside at a relative's home, but the boy feels unwelcome there and makes the rash decision to leave with his sister. They survive for a little while in the woods until they start feeling the effects of starvation. The rest is heartbreaking.

One of my parents is Japanese. This movies makes me cry every time. It's about pride and responsibility and young innocence.

They’re all sad.

Toy story 2 when Jessie thinks she’ll be loved again but is being dumped by the road.

Toy story 4 when Woody leaves and when we realize Bonnie doesn’t love him as Andy did.

Shirley McClain was incredible! The part where she goes out to the nurse’s station and demands that they give the daughter her pain meds is acting gold. The anger, the pain, the frustration all cane through so beautifully.

Life As A House
Shadowlands

These are 2 great tear jerkers but sadly I haven’t seen them available streaming or elsewhere in years.

Beaches is another.

Yes to both of these, definitely my top 2.

Also,

Land Before Time
My Sister's Keeper (holy moly, I didn't have eyeballs after this)

You should read the book. I don’t want to spoil it if you haven’t read it, but the movie is definitely the “happy” version of the story.

I agree with the Boy in the striped Pajama. It is on the same page as Diary of Ann Frank. Book Thief would follow.

I like lately funny/sad comedies with just a right balance of both so you can laugh a lot and cry a little.

What We Did on Our Holiday

Hector and the Search For Happiness

Saving Mr. Banks

Beautiful Boy is just sad but it is a very moving story.

My recent discovery.. Tom Hanks is brilliant but so is the movie, sad yet very uplifting story.
