If there were a pattern of children being injured in these larger classes - maybe worth a public debate.
But so far it is an isolated incident and no one here has any clue how it happened and whether it is something that could have been prevented. Yet here we are debating boundary revisions, trailers and more. SMH. |

I had 32-33 in a MCPS "W" elementary pyramid back in the '70's
I remember it ONLY because of all the droning on about it by the teacher. |
| Could everyone just pause the comments for a minute. I need to make some popcorn before reading more. |
These kids are 8 or 9 years old? And this happens during class with two teachers? How very disturbing! |
|
Well, it's concerning to have 32 kids in a class regardless of this particular story. As the thread title refers to the class size, that is why I clicked on the thread.
I just don't understand why parents are ok with the class size arrangement, even if 2 teachers, but that is their choice and their business. |
Because there's no reason at all to assume that the injury occurred because there are too many kids in the class. My kid had her hair ripped from her scalp in a class with 2 teachers and 15 students. |
We are at a HRCS, 18 w/teacher and aide in 3rd. Did not realize class sizes can get this big. |

More overcrowding at Deal with these big Janney numbers. The feeder system has to go.
When oyster outgrew its newly renovated bldg, parents found a building to expand. Perhaps Janney takes over tenley library. Library relocates elsewhere or that neighborhood uses chevy chase library. |
| What is the fire code limit on number of kids in a room? Anyone know? There must be some outer limit to this. |
Well when you show up at your neighborhood public school on day one and find 32 kids in the class, what exactly are you supposed to do, homeschool? |
Um, DCPS cannot just take over a public neighborhood library. |
|
is this that surprising though? DCPS does projections, they seem to be at fault. |
| Frankly, I would rather have trailers on some of the garden space --over 32 kids in one class. |
| Most people would!! |
