Janney third grade parents--what do you think of the giant class sizes?

Then new families and their kids won't even have to cross the street to reach Janney. The developer can simply put in a back door that leads to the playground.

It could be a seven story slide. They can charge for it on weekends a a revenue source.

Don't expect more than token increases of ethnic and SES diversity. Do expect more white affluent residents.

To build a big PUD development, isn't GDS supposed to provide community benefits and amenities over and above what zoning laws and regulations require? So what are the touted "amenities" -- the proposed GDS Spanish Steps or perhaps the school's expanded presence itself?!

That is actually really funny. Have they seen public school theaters? And I hope they meant available for free, lol!

The GDS parents from Maryland probably have a very dated notion of the condition of NW DC public schools and the students who attend them, the poor dears.

My word, the attempts at snobbery fly in every direction on this board.

Last time GDS asked for approval from the neighborhood, they promised neighborhood benefits and never delivered. They are playing hardball with us and we are rolling over. Limousine liberals at their finest.

I'd love Janney if it wasn't for the people.

Yes, it's a friendly, close-knit school community.

Jabber is a victim of its own success, but the school really is too big now. School size matters in elementary--as much as class size, I think.

Is everything like the gym and playground overcrowded or working in short shifts? That is a problem as well.

Sounds like the only added diversity to the neighborhood will be seniors. See 9/29/15 Janney Local School Advisory Team minutes - summary of Janney principal's Sept 2015 meeting with GDS. "Some concern with possible increased enrollment from the added housing, although GDS says current plans are for small units for seniors." https://janneyschool.org/community/school-planning/lsat-minutes/

aka grandparents whose grandchildren are suddenly living with them so they can go to Janney. New addresses are new addresses. It doesn't matter who they are "hoping" will buy them. Every unit has the potential to increase enrollment.
