Go to the school website and look for a Staff directory. They will be probably be listed as a Specialist.

Or you could just call the school's main number.

Has anyone heard anything about buses to the GT centers?

The current proposed budget eliminates buses to GT centers for children who have a local Level 4 option at their base school.

It is unclear what will happen in those cases where your base school only offers Level 4 for part of the grades. For example, my base school will have a Level 4 classroom for 3rd and 4th grade next year. It is not clear if a bus will still be provided for 5th and 6th graders to the GT center and if 3rd and 4th graders be allowed to ride that bus also.

I wrote my School Board members and Tina Hone replied:

For the record, I do not support cuts to transportation to advanced academic center busing at this time. I believe that as long as we have such centers, transportation should be provided. Otherwise, we create a situation where advanced academic achievers whose parents work or who are less affluent and thus unable to drive their children to school will be denied equal access to the center and its benefits.

Well, that may be what she thinks, but the budget as currently written eliminates buses to GT centers if your base school has Level IV. If this is an important issue to you, you need to write your school board member and let them know before the budget is finalized.

ITA. One School Board member is nice, but it has to be a majority vote. Their next Budget work session is on Monday.

two questions:
1. what is considered a good score on the GT behaviour scale (the 4 areas)? is there a range that's considered strong?

2. any suggestions on how to explain the WISC test to a second grader without creating anxiety or pressure?

any and all help is greatly appreciated!

The maximum GBRS score is 16. (Four questions, graded 1 - 4, with 4 being highest.)

Also, you may want to post your questions to the FCAG Yahoo group.

I would talk to the person that will be administering the test about what can be expected and how he/she suggests explaining it to your child. I told my 4 year old (I know its young, she took it for school admissions) that she was going to talk to a nice woman who was going to help us decide what would be the best school for her next year and that I would be outside the whole time. My daughter had a great time and has asked to go back again. The advice I got was make sure she gets a good nights sleep and a good breakfast. You might want to choose the time of day she will be tested for when she is at her best, say 9 or 10 am. Also, it is important that you not be stressed about it as she will pick up on that. Finally, when choosing a testing center ask if they have particular people who have a lot of experience with children of you child's age and gender.
