How worthless is Muriel Bowser?

I think that is before the mass exodus over the last 18 months.

Nope. Thank God, urban upgrading (often called "gentrification") continues.

How about tell Lanier that he needs to hire more cops or she's going to can his ass?

How about you learn some basic facts about DC -- like the fact that Chief Lanier is a woman and not a man -- before you try to comment on DC policy?

Clearly the PP is gender blind. Isn't that just what "progressives" want?

Either way, MPD is remarkably ineffective. It's busy touting the fact that resources are being targeted at arresting 200 some johns on a charge of solicitation while ordinary citizens are being beaten and shot dead on the streets. What do we get in response? A shrug of the shoulders and statements to the effect that there's no real explanation for the spike in violent crime. Oh, and a nice tent near the site of some of the recent shootings. Bowser and Lanier are fiddling while DC burns.

Add to that the fact that there are numerous other police agencies that have general jurisdiction and the rest are in the District of Columbia. These include the Capitol police, the secret service uniform division, the U.S. park Police, Metro transit police, various federal agency uniformed police forces, ATF, FBI, etc. They all provide resources that MPD can or should leverage. In fact, most of the DC traffic stops I see are made not by MPD ( they're frankly not interested, even though such stops routinely turn up people with guns, wanted on outstanding warrants,etc.). They seem to be made by Secret Service, the Capitol police and the Park Police.

PP typo alert: not "the rest" but "general arrest power" in DC.

It's common knowledge by those in policing that the more law enforcement agencies, the worse things are. Deconfliction is horrible in DC. Communication between MPD is worse.

Developers have thrived with Bowser. And she has thrived with their “contributions.”

We have a stupid, corrupt mayor now.

Please bring back Anthony Williams, the best Washington mayor ever!

Why, is a white person more qualified and intelligent to lead folks?

I’d take Vince Gray over Jack Evans any day.

I agree that Tony Williams was superb. DC needs the best mayor regardless of race. At the same time, the expectation that DC’s mayor should be an African-American is regressive and offensive.

PP who asked what Bowser should do: something about crime, and lay her hands off the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (which is really just a perfect example of her micromanaging of city agencies & power grabs across DC).
