| The faster the Cluster goes away, the faster other Hill and Hill orbiting schools will improve. |
A TIF means the developers are contributing to fund something. It is NOT a subsidy to developers. Similarly Center Leg Freeway will reconnect DC streets, and create park space, by allowing a developer to get new land. No cash subsidy to the developer, that I am aware of. PP posited subsidy to developers vs $ for hill schools. That implies to me actual cash to developers, in exchange for them building something. A few years back DC gave money for a supermarket in SW, I think and there is the long sage of Skyland in SE. But AFAICT there is nothing like that in recent years west of the Anacostia. |
Don't know, but that is certainly the way it is right now. |
Take off the tinfoil hat, pp. I have seen many non-Hill, heck, non-DC residents work the system to their benefit at the expense of DC taxpayers. However, a test is a test. |
??? I always see these types of posts from posters who denigrate Watkins and would never send their kids there. |
Until, of course, it isn't one. As in, there's a test, but there are enough ways to game it so that it becomes meaningless for all but those who don't have the right connections. This is actually one of the reasons I like the lottery system in DC. If I wanted games, I'd move to Fairfax. |
Giving taxes in a TIF over a base benchmark for decades to a developer isn't a giveaway? - DC's lenders think so. Tying down the assessed value of a property for years isn't a subdidy to a developer? We live in the 21st century - we don't do actual cah payments anymore. Let me know when you see your epiphany. |
The rest of us might very well move there because we value education. |
| This area is starting to fall now that real estate in DC is not that hot anymore. |
. . .waving bye-bye to Bowser and Allen and Kaya and all the other people playing politics with our children. |
So is this also the situation with the test in middle school opening in ward 7??? Or are "those people" somehow different from "these people". Hypocrite. |
Please do. No one is stopping you. |
Has it opened yet? If not, we don't yet know. I'd bet once it's opened, it will also be gamed. Why wouldn't it be? |
| The last 2 PPs is one troll. No kids, not a Hill resident; just a troll. |

I think people on the Hill are grumpy because we have a critical mass of middle class/upper class families living here and could have great schools. But the way the system is structured prevents that from happening.
All Hill elementary schools (Watkins, Brent, Maury, LT, etc) should feed into one middle school. It's idiotic that this hasn't been done. |
