Would you let your kids miss the first week of school for vacation?

I'm not one to be super strict about only taking trips during school vacations either. But in your case OP, I don't think either child should miss the first week of school - a lot have said that it's ok for the pre-k student, but that's the week they get to know each other, learn the class routine, etc. That's probably the worst week of school to miss - if it's not for a major life event for someone very close to the family, I'd either reschedule the trip, or if that's not possible say no thanks.
