But in your case OP, I don't think either child should miss the first week of school - a lot have said that it's ok for the pre-k student, but that's the week they get to know each other, learn the class routine, etc. That's probably the worst week of school to miss - if it's not for a major life event for someone very close to the family, I'd either reschedule the trip, or if that's not possible say no thanks.
