You're talking to more than one person. It's not the law, but I believe that if we are going to allow it to be a choice, than parents should be held responsible if it results in harming others. In that way, they make the choice to willfully disregard other's saftey AND their own protection from prosecution. It puts you on an even playing field.

+100, unless there are some very compelling health reasons (like the child has cancer or something and body can't handle the vac).

Not getting a vaccine does not put others at risk. It puts you at risk.

If you get a vaccine you are fine. If you don't, you are not.

I think it's crazy not to get a vaccine. I think it's even crazier to tell others they have to.

Too many ignorant posters are saying someone else not getting vaccine, puts their child (who did) at risk. Nonsense.

I guess you don't care about immunocompromised children like cancer survivors, children with allergies that preclude then getting vaccines or the statistically small population for whom the vaccine doesn't work. Other then all of them (and their families and loved ones if you count their worry and emotional pain at a sick or worse child) yeah sure no one is in danger.

Op, CDC has a hotline that you can discuss vaccines and school systems have very clear vaccination requirements. FCPS accepts results of high titer for Varicella and MMR in lieu of booster shots because the immunity provided by these vaccines are thought to be lifelong. High titers for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella show lifelong immunity. But Varicella vaccine is new and lifelong effectiveness is an educated estimate based on clinical studies and effectiveness of live vaccines, such as MMR. So far the estimate is 10 to 20 years. Without the second dose for Varicella, you may required to demonstrate existing immunity periodically; in other words, blood tests may be required as frequently as every year unless there was a history of illness.
