I am a Republican and I know what side I fall on. Use government money to provide the essentials - food, housing, etc. Anything else should not be on the tax-payer’s dime. For those of us “middle class” folks - it is difficult enough to make ends meet for OUR families. I don’t mind helping out those who are truly needy - but don’t use my hard-earned money to fund tattoos, massages, and gambling. |
Lots of people get government handouts: farmers, the elderly, corporations (ultimately, their shareholders). Why don't we put restrictions on them too? |
Because they are actually being (or once were) productive members of society, not sucking us down the drain |
So someone who worked for 20 years and cannot find work now should be exempt? |
If that is how you see the unemployed, you can expect that they will never become Republicans, ever. |
The perpetually unemployed and the perpetually on welfare and the people who feel they should get free money if they don't want to work because hey its a free country are sucking us all down the drain. |
Many farmers are paid not to be productive. |
I for one do not mind working 60 hour weeks and having my tax contributions going towards people who don't care about their or their kids' health, obesity, pre-teen pregnancies, diet or education. America is a free county and has safety nets to help people people like that live their lives (ER rooms, medicaid, free counseling, housing subsidies, SNAP, etc.). |
Because the regular folk are paying for it ![]() |
The welfare queen did actually exist http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/history/2013/12/linda_taylor_welfare_queen_ronald_reagan_made_her_a_notorious_american_villain.html |
By reading the statement of account at the end of the month? ![]() |
Even better: My kid has to go on a mandatory service trip (that I have to pay for) in order to graduate. |
