The two stories don't match up, but the OP of both is nuts. And disgusting. |
So what you're looking for is validation from strangers that it's OK to let your dog pee and poo out on the balcony? I hope your DH finds this so he sees that some people are on his side |
Sorry I had to come back and respond. I know people do this. They don't do it eight times per day. If any poster with kids is walking their dog eight times per day please say so. If anyone lets their dog out to potty eight times per day ease say so. This is not a normal situation. |
Heck if any poster without kids walks their dog or let's them out eight times per day please let me know. No one will. Because it's not reasonable. |
And yes I am absolutely putting my self care priorities above those of the dog and the husband. 100 percent |
Presumably your DH can take care of himself. Your dog cannot. Rehome her if that's your attitude. Good luck rehoming a 16 year old incontinent dachshund. |
omg it's a dachshund?!?! So tiny. Pick the thing up and take it down for a quick pee 8x a day (I think you're exaggerating this number). So little. Or make it wear a diaper. Easy. |
I have been in your situation OP right down to letting the dog use the balcony (we could not use the balcony of course and after the dog was gone we had it refinished and we needed to replace quite a bit of flooring and wood trim because eventually pee seeped into the floor boards and the trim. At the time this was going on, I was really sick, my DH was always traveling and I had just had my child.
My dog was healthy except for the incontinence and not being able to get up and down the stairs. In hindsight, I now realize that I let her linger much longer than I should have and her quality of life was gone. I should have done the kinder thing far before I did. I am most definitely an animal lover and loved our dog very much and still miss her though it's been years. My vet tried to kindly steer me that way pointing out that there was no medication or treatment available and that I had to realize that things would only continue to decline not get better. He was right. It took me about a year before I could let go. |
I do and I was out with a dog 8 times daily or more when pregnant with all my children. And when I had babies I shoveled paths for a dog in deep snow. Why do people get dogs if they won't let them do their business? My marriage would suffer if I or DH would not allow a living being to eliminate on a humane basis. This is a weird thread. |
OP, what about doggie daycare during the day? This should cut down on your trips quite a bit. If DH picks the pooch up from daycare on his way home from work, then you're both home to take the dog out properly. Win-win? |
Yeah, I remember her now! She said that she had to check in while wearing her robe. She wanted to kick her husband to the curb and fly to her parent's home and give birth because she was so upset that her husband wanted her to put the dog down because of its age and condition. She said that she was too pregnant and unsteady to continue carrying the dog up and down the stairs anymore and wanted her DH to do it. She refused to reason with her husband, so she started letting the dog do his business on the balcony which her husband thought was unsanitary. Now she is saying that she has two toddlers. Wonder if she made up the pregnancy for sympathy. |
That actually sounds really difficult. |
Actually we do--possibly even more than 8 times, because she tries to weasel treats out of us each time. Our dog is on prednisone, so she drinks a lot and therefore pees a lot. She'll usually get up with me at 7am to potty before I go to work; DH will leave her out at 9am when he leaves for work; she wears a diaper until he comes home at lunch to let her out around 1pm and then diapers her again; I let her out when I get home at 5; she'll then want to go out after dinner and 1-2 more times before bed. She'll want out at 12am and 3am. Is it an inconvenience? Yes, but we love her and don't want her to get a bladder infection or UTI. No resentment or laziness--we both pitch in for our dog. We rarely find her doggie diapers wet, but put them on her just in case. These are wonderful to put on furniture and on her bed: http://www.petsmart.com/dog/potty-training/top-paw-washable-training-pad-zid36-25943/cat-36-catid-100127?var_id=36-25943&_t=pfm%3Dcategory Are you using just the disposable potty pads or do you have a holder? (I'd be less grossed out by your balcony "arrangement" if you were using a holder or Tinkle Turf.) You say your DH is walking the dog twice? You can't bother to take the dog out front to pee 1-2 times throughout the day? Smh |
Not the same as lugging a dog up/down stairs every couple (I'm assuming) of hours. |
I remember her too... ![]() |
