Men selling flowers on side of the road. What's the story behind that?

Anonymous
Meanwhile the flower shops that pay taxes and abide by regulations are undercut. Great system.

This is more likely. They are not undercover cops. The kid (maybe 18-19?) near us has to stay out there until he sells them all or he eats the cost. So even in the pouring rain he's out there with his roses. English is limited, but he's a very nice young man.

It was the moonies when i first started these guys in the 80s. Now it is desperate poor people.

What are all of these naive questions. Voters in this area vote for lenient immigration policies, sanctuary cities and towns, and roll out the red carpet for illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants cannot get jobs that require I9 and often have minimal amounts of education, so how do you expect them to feed themselves and make money? They work under the table selling flowers, fruit out of the back of the trucks, stand around the parking lots of home Depot looking for day labor, etc. Etc. Are y'all really this naive? You voted for it, now you get it. There are millions up on millions of people living in this country illegally who are working a black market economy outside of the govt's radar. They work all cash jobs to avoid paying taxes, and also because they have problems getting bank accounts and social security numbers unless they commit identity fraud. It's a gigantic black market economy dodging appropriate income taxes.

+1 million to this.

one of the first things Trump did when he became president was to pardon a guy who had been arrested and prosecuted under Obama for employing hundreds or illegal immigrants in his meat packing plants, advertising in Mexico for the jobs, helping them get fake ID and so on. Because he was a religious family man and such a nice guy.

I bought one time - it was raining and I see the same guy all the time, and I wanted to help him out. It was $20 for a bouquet of 6 roses (with baby's breath and other filler). It was right before Valentine's day so there may have been a markup. I remember being surprised by how long they lasted, I think they looked good for about a week.

You can probably negotiate a better price than that. I didn't try.
