Men selling flowers on side of the road. What's the story behind that?

Just curious

They need money

What do they charge for flowers?

I heard they buy flowers from funeral homes and resell them. I didn't believe it but the more I think about it, it makes sense.

The flowers just come from a distributor, just like grocery stores get them.

It's a business like any other. What is there to think about?

Well, it's not exactly common in other cities.

Well, it's not exactly common in other cities. It might seem weird to an outsider.

I've seen men sell bags of green and red peppers in Miami.

Well, no, not like any other b/c they are usually standing at an intersection.

Anyone know what they even charge?

I see them around, usually on weekends and holidays. They know when people are going to visit their mothers and girlfriends.

I grew up in St. Louis and we had guys who sold flowers and pretzels on the road. I bought a pretzel from the nice man on the corner of Loughborough and Grand every Saturday. DC is not unique.

It's... commerce. Like in the Middle Ages, you know.

What cities have you lived in?
I have seen this in every city I have been to.

I had heard that they were part of some religious group or cult and coerced into selling them and the money goes back to the group…can't remember details, though.
