Cousin giving baby the same first and middle name of my DS!

Anonymous
My daughter and son both have my maiden name for their middle name. It is a name that is unusual and will "end" with my line of cousins (only the girls had children and none of us were able to convince our husbands to let our kids have our name as our kids' last name). We gave my kids the last name as a way of continuing the name a bit longer. One of my Uncles always made a big deal about how much he appreciated my kids having the family name as a middle name. When his daughter had more children she gave her daughter my daughter's same first and last name. They are very close in age. It made my Uncle very happy. I had always loved my daughter's first name and when my cousin chose the same name for her daughter I thought, I guess she loves the name too. My daughter actually thinks it is cool that she has a cousin with the same first and last name. I think it is all how you look at it. Life's too short to worry about stuff like this.

This is how I feel. Someone did this to me. It was a friend of my mother's. I don't like the people, because they have been blatantly rude to me in the past. Unprovoked. Then they go and take an unusual name I painstakingly picked out? They can shove it.

I'm with you, OP. But if you say something, you are the "bad guy". You know how that goes. Wait until their turn comes. And hope you are there for it

Thank you for nicely demonstrating that people who take issue with this "name stealing" really have issues with the people, not the behavior.

And problems with narcissism.

The copiers? I totally agree. I mean, if you don't like the person, and you are more than blatantly rude to them their whole lives, who wouldn't be offended? In the case of cousins, there is a reasonable presumption of family name usage, not owning anything, necessarily, and the idea that they probably were not complete a holes to you your whole life.

It was obnoxious to take BOTH names, family or not. And she deserves anything you do say. Get busy having fun with this one, OP!

Nice try, but no, that isnot what we meant.

This reminds me of the thread from the op whose BILL bought his kid a gun for Christmas. When DCUM did not act shocked enough the story expanded to how much of an asshole BIL is. Pro DCUM tip: when complaining about the behavior of problem relatives, give context in the op about their assholery. If all you do is say what they did this time, the thread will be about you and how weird you are for being offended.

Op you are ridiculous. Really. You don't own names. Get over yourself. Don't listen to the silly 13 year old teen girls on this post who have already picked out their children's names and think they own them.

You people can say whatever you want. It's still weird.
