Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Or something like that, LOL |
Yes, no one has the monopoly on Aidan Henry. |
I come from a family of maaaany William Thomases. ![]() |
i think it's so odd that people are annoyed by things like this. you don't own the names. maybe she's loved those names for a long time. |
I'd be irritated. Out of all the names in the world, the cousin has to pick the exact same name?? |
Just wondering if this is a generational sensitivity or is this something that has bothered people of previous generations.
I personally can't think of anything less consequential ........ but I am older than most people on this forum. |
Twelve year's difference - not a huge deal.
I used to think it was very strange to announce the name before the baby was born. However, a friend just lost a child through still birth. When the announcement was made, she used the baby's name. It seemed more.. personal.. or something. |
OP, you responded, right? What did she say? I would definitely respond either on FB or via personal message. I would just be short and blunt, but leave out any emotion. "I see you're naming your baby Henry Jake, same as our son!" Just see what she says. If she directly asks you if you think it's weird, you'll have to decide whether it's worth the potential harm in being honest. But definitely say something to her. |
I have a weird set of relatives, I guess, because our younger cousins have the same names as my brother and I. It did not really bother me, even though I am only a month older than my girl cousin, and our families lived in the same area, and went to the same schools. Luckily, our last names are different. |
+1 This is how I feel. Someone did this to me. It was a friend of my mother's. I don't like the people, because they have been blatantly rude to me in the past. Unprovoked. Then they go and take an unusual name I painstakingly picked out? They can shove it. I'm with you, OP. But if you say something, you are the "bad guy". You know how that goes. Wait until their turn comes. And hope you are there for it ![]() |
Thank you for nicely demonstrating that people who take issue with this "name stealing" really have issues with the people, not the behavior. |
It is, I agree. But if you have been blatantly rude to someone all their life, for no reason at all, would you have the balls to take the unusual (2) names, same order, of their child? If your child was about a month or two younger? Talk about obnoxious. |
It wouldn't bother me but I would have fun replying something like the PP suggested. We have a few double names in our family and it's always the younger ones that hate being "little Claire" or "little Jack." |
I like the suggestion of John Henry 1.0 can't wait to meet John Henry 2.0.
I assume you have diff. last names. Is there a chance she will be using a different nickname for child such as Jack??? Also, maybe talk to a mutual relative about this issue...On the QT, tell relative that you find this odd and see if relative can talk her out of it..And by relative, I mean maybe an older woman such as a Great Aunt. |
I have a name picked out if I ever have a girl. I don't care who has that name or who uses it before me. No one will stop me from using the name I want. |
