Cousin giving baby the same first and middle name of my DS!

Anonymous
My cousin announced her soon to be born son's name on Facebook today, and it's the same first AND same middle as my son's. We live in the same area, we see each other at family events..maybe I shouldn't be so miffed about this but I find it incredibly odd. What would you think about this?

Yeah, that's weird and would irritate me. Any other backstory, a family name?

I also find the trend of announcing the baby's name to the world before baby has arrived odd and poorly advised, but that's a separate issue.

I'm assuming the last names will be different? Are these family names from your side?

So?

It depends how old your son is. If he's 10 years old, I wouldn't mind - she obviously likes the name. If he's 10 months old, I would be surprised she didn't think about possible confusion.

I am assuming she knows your already-born son's name, correct?

If so, yes it is very strange especially the first and middle name (unless the middle name is a shared family surname in which case it is weird that she is planning on giving him the same first name with the same family name). Yeah - so basically, the whole thing is very weird.

I have a cousin with my first name but different middle name and different last name and she lives on the other side of the country. Plus virtually everyone of our generation has a cousin with my first name.

Is your name choice a popular one?

Much ado about nothing.

Write on her FB wall, "Ha ha! You do know that my son (First Middle Last name) will accuse your son of identity theft later in life, right? This name gets a huge thumbs up from me though!"

Comment: well Thomas Joseph 1.0 says hello to Thomas Joseph 2.0! Maybe she'll get irritated and change it.

You could call them Austin One and Austin Two.
