There are some of us Republicans - many, in fact, - who care deeply for those who are struggling to make ends meet. There are those of us who volunteer for Meals on Wheels, or at a local soup kitchen, or at a local school providing tutoring services (for free). There are those of us who donate money and goods to non-profits in order to help others who are not as fortunate. Many of us Republicans don’t have the HHI that others do, but find the money and the time to help others.
Don’t let this poster serve as representative of Republicans - or any party - for that matter. S/he is in a league all his/her own. And, none of us want to join him/her.

I'm another republican that does plenty of volunteer work, and have always done it because I want to and I care about whatever cause I am volunteering for. I also donate a lot more money than a lot of people do to charities that I care about. Most of the people I am friends with are democrats. They have a lot more money than I do, but aren't involved in much volunteer work and I don't know how much money they donate, because I dont ask.

But really, I don't know why everyone talks about republicans being rich and greedy when it's the democrats that have all the money. And the problem isn't that they HAVE the money, it's that they claim to be the party that represents the working class and they want to end poverty and make sure everyone has the same opportunities. The richest people in the country are liberal democrats. If they really cared as much as they say they do, they could do a lot more with their money to help poor families. Ok, now who will be the first one to try to deflect and mention corporate welfare?

No, all we need is to be decent to every group of people that Republicans disparage. It generally adds up to a majority of the country. Think about this. The Republican party says it values religion, economic freedom, and a strong defense.

The Hispanic population is the most Christian segment of America. The Democrats get 70% of their vote.

Asian Americans are the wealthiest and most upwardly mobile segment of America -- wealthier than whites. The Democrats get 70% of their vote.

Jews and the GOP are both extremely pro-Israel. The Democrats get 70% of the Jewish vote.


So why can't the Republicans crack the most religious, most wealthy, and most right-leaning foreign policy segments of America? How is it that Democrats, even in this day and age, get 70% of their votes? It is because your party cannot conceal its disdain for these and so many other segments of America. It is palpable. You think you can talk down the poor in front of Jews, that you can talk down blacks in front of Asians, and you can badmouth Hispanic Americans right to their faces and somehow they will eventually vote for you one day. The safety net has been expanded. Has this ended homelessness and poverty?

Here's some research you may want to read showing that not only do more undergraduate liberal arts majors go one to attain advanced degrees, but they close the earnings gap by their peak earning years. And many science majors start out earning MORE than people who attended business school.

The richest man in America is Bill Gates, who may or may not be a liberal Democrat but is doing such a bang-up job with his money helping poor families that I don't think I have to document evidence of it.

#2 is Warren Buffett, who leans left and gave away $2.8 BILLION in June to a number of charities, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

#3 is Larry Ellison, whose politics I honestly don't know, but he said this in 2010: ""Many years ago, I put virtually all of my assets into a trust with the intent of giving away at least 95 percent of my wealth to charitable causes," he said on the Giving Pledge Web site. "I have already given hundreds of millions of dollars to medical research and education, and I will give billions more over time. Until now, I have done this giving quietly--because I have long believed that charitable giving is a personal and private matter."

Tied for #4 are the Koch brothers. Not really known for using their money to help poor families.
#6, 7, 9 and 10 are the Wal-Mart heirs. Not really the case there, either.
