For Russian - Marivanna downtown is pretty good and the deserts remind me of my childhood. It's a bit pricy for a Russian restaurant (IMO) but I like it. Rus-Uz in NoVa is good, looks like a larger version of my grandma's kitchen and is cheaper (has both Russian and Uzbek food).

+1 Yes!!! A real bagel place. There have been some pop-ups that have been really good, but it would be nice to have a permanent great bagel place.

Good, everyday Chinese, preferably Sichuan or Hunan. We were in the Bay Area over the summer and went to a neighborhood joint in Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hills area whose prices were on par with DC take out places but so yummy - real cooking, not dripping in packaged sauces.

Yes, this. I'm from Toronto and I basically just don't go out for Chinese food when I'm in DC because it has been uniformly disappointing.
