Pretty bad offender? AFAIK Brent has only had an IB waitlist for the past two years. |
Our principal represented that Central Office set the ratio at 10:7 for this school year and 9:8 for next year, meaning 10 four-year olds to 7 three-year olds. Then again, s/he also has been proven to be a first-class peddler of BS. |
Sounds like DCPS and charters all use their discretion first before waitlist |
Heck, there was a longtime principal at an upper NW elementary school who lived in Maryland and yet his son attended the school. |
Not to mention that it's a back door way of taking care of politicians' and appointees' friends and supporters. |

I would love it if Wiener, Austermuhle or Brown would FOIA email records regarding admission of children of DC employees outside the lottery process, duly omitting personal information about each child. |
I don't think a blanket statement like that is true. Have talked to a few admissions folks at some charters that are scrupulous about going down the list one-by-one. Not saying that they all do it that way, but some certainly do. |
DCPS principals don't care. |
Is this real or just a rumor? Please name the politicians or appointees whose kids got into a school through connections. OK, I know one, Adrian Fenty. |
Definitely not all. Our HRC has made families either leave or move to DC. |
Former councilmember Kwame Brown |
I'm curious whether US Senators and Reps whose children attend DCPS pay out-of-state tuition. I know they were called out several years ago for taking advantage of the Homestead exemption on real property taxes. |
