Believers have no brain. |
We agree that lots of statements are subjective. And religious people often act badly. No disagreement there. But there are absolutely atheist bullies on DCUM - you simply can't argue this is untrue. These atheist bullies are deliberately offensive. If I can cop to the religious bullies here, you need to cop to the atheist bullies. |
I'm not expert in Eastern religions, but I don't think Karma involves a God of the type in Abrahamic religions. |
not really -- in fact, your demand of what I "need" to do, could be seen as a mild form of bullying - you're telling atheists what they have to do. You copped, so atheists need to as well. |
| Because we are given free will for good or bad. |
| Because bad things can happen to anyone; God is fair & doesn't play favorites. |

I heard it described this way.
We are here to learn. God wants us to learn. If your kid is learning to ride a skateboard, she is going to fall off. She probably will get hurt. But that is how she will learn. We think of illness, pain and death as bad things because we are human. God sees pain and death as temporary and short lived. We all die. We all go to God, either at age five or 105 or in between. What did we learn in the time we had? What did we learn while tending our sick five year old with cancer? Or while doing chemo ourselves? What did we learn waiting to go into the gas chamber at Aushwitz? Or while guarding the doors there? I don't pretend to really be capable of this perspective. Being philosophical about mass murder or little kids with cancer is almost impossible. But if to God, our time here is just a temporary visit on an eternal journey of the soul, then our sufferings don't seem so interminable and intolerable. http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/108398/jewish/Belief-After-the-Holocaust.htm |
"seem" is the key word here - our suffering may not seem so interminable and intolerable if we can convince ourselves that there is a God who provides an eternal heaven afterwards. Still, why does he make some people suffer so before allowing them into heaven while others have a long and pleasant life. Some weird god that is. |
What's fair about allowing horrible suffering to some and sparing others? |
nothing -- also there's nothing in the bible or in Catechism about god being fair and not playing favorites. It's just an made-up answer to try to comfort someone asking a question with no real answers -- except that there is not a god being unfair and playing favorites. That simplifies everything -- of course it means no heaven and the idea of heaven existing is comforting enough to some that they will believe and make-up any number of things to keep up the comfort-level. |
Random punishments keep folks on their toes and grateful when nothing bad happens. It's pretty much I do my parenting, too. |
Are you saying that god inflicts random punishments to keep people on their toes or are you deriding this something a loving god or loving parent would never do? |
| My dad have cancer and he is a good person and ask to god why? No answer.... My father was told that his cancer was stage 4 and have 8 months of live and i pray i pray that was almost 16 years ago....!!! Thanks God!! |
Too bad for the Dads with cancer that God didn't help, even though they were prayed for. God's will. |
This is SUCH a stupid argument. Because God (if there is one) sacrificed his son by allowing him to die on a cross, salvation is available to all of us. uh yeah so much sense this makes |
