Which is just fine - but realize you have to pay for it. If you are taking out $30K in loans per year for the privelege of a pretty campus and spa-like dorms, you're not very smart, are you? If you're getting a full-ride, have an awesome time!

If you define "nice" as being expensive, then there are lots of places in Haarlem and the Bronx where you'll be deleriously happy. The rest of us probalby define "nice" as having more to do with nice trees and parks, and safety.

Your posts make no sense. Penn is in a bad neighborhood that is not particularly safe. NYU and Columbia are in much safer areas, and Columbia is a block away from Riverside Park.

Huh? Real estate is expensive EVERYWHERE in Manhattan/the Boroughs. That doesn't speak to safety or beauty. And Riverside Park certainly has its share of vagrants.

But fine, you want to think that high property prices must mean that absolutely anywhere in NYC must be Heaven on Earth. That's your choice, and nobody is going to stand in your way.

You might as well stop sputtering. The University City area is crappy; Greenwich Village and Morningside Heights are not. Whether Harlem is expensive or East New York is unsafe is irrelevant.

In the same vein, why do you do things like bring up real estate prices and then, when someone addresses it, you claim real estate prices are irrelevant? A good thing about the internet era is that we have crime (and other) statistics right at our fingertips.

If you look at the Trulia real estate website overview for University City Philadelphia, it's no worse than Bethesda, Maryland. Much of the campus is coded "green" (low crime), with other sections "yellow" meaning there have been some thefts. No aggravated assaults, etc. So, I do think that one poster is exaggerating.

No way! I was there last night for a summer class. I love it. Green, beautiful. Easy to park during summer. Safe, clean campus. Lots of green and trees. Good new facilities. Great adjunct staff who really know there stuff.

OK I'll try and break up this senseless fighting by saying that Brown Univ has an extremely ugly campus -- I don't know why I didn't try to transfer to Dartmouth or HYP, where I probably would have been much happier anyways.

GMU is a very nice campus with lots of green space and beautiful new buildings.

My DC will be starting his junior year there in fall. We've been very pleased with accommodations, classrooms, green areas, athletic facilities, dorms. Everything is close to the dorms. I've never had a concern about safety, either. Great theater and interior stadium.
