What is the most overrated area (neighborhood, town, etc) in the DC metropolitan area?

Underrated.

Yeah, like pedestrians are never run over in the city!

Fact is, walking in DC is a lot safer than walking in the suburbs.

Driving is easier in the suburbs, though. Pedestrians in the city have gotten so arrogant. They often cross in the middle of the street, don't pay attention to no-walk signs, and check their text messages as they walk. The self-absorption rate is very, very high.

Langley.

I know people who have resided in both areas of McLean (Langley and not). Some still own their houses in McLean. If they have to retire in this area (they hope not), they will live in their McLean house and rent their Langley house. Otherwise, they will just sell their Langley house, rent their McLean house and get out of dodge.

They much prefer the people and proximity of McLean.

PP is accurate, most inner suburbs are not walkable, it is in fact a joke.

Personally, I don't understand the hype of Arlington. Proximity is nice, I suppose. Potomac is just bizarre.

the parking in Georgetown is horrendous.

Burke seems to get a good deal of over-love among DCUMers. Not sure what it has that Reston and Fairfax City don't.

If you live in Georgetown and your home doesn't include parking, you cannot afford to live in Georgetown.

For most people, expensive="overrated." It's sad, really.

(not saying it's a terrible place, it's not.)

Depends where you live. We lived East side few blocks up from M and had zero problems. I always had street parking right outside of my house.

+1 There's nothing there and people avoid Bancroft like the plague. No metro.

+1. I lived there for 4 years and it was fantastic...and quiet on the East side near Dupont. I plan to move back to my house once kids finish public school in NoVa.

I promise that I am not jealous. I really don't get what is so great about it. More power to you if you do. Different strokes. However, it oddly childish that people think other preferences are disguised jealousy. I love certain parts of DC, but not Georgetown.

But it isn't just about me parking. If you have a party, no one has a place to park. And they get stuck in traffic and are really late. And you have to deal with all of the college kids at any of the local establishments. Just not my cup of tea. Nothing sad about that.

+1 and also for people who work in G'town. Monthly parking in any garage is really the same price as downtown. I am the original PP who worked in G'town for ~ a year and now I work downtown. My monthly parking is actually $5 more and I get stuck in traffic WAY more often in downtown than I ever did getting in, out, and around Georgetown.

I agree completely. I think because it is cheap, has town homes, and VRE, people see it as a viable option, even though they are schlepping 3 days to their 9-5.
