Regret prepping for cogat now . . .

Only a simpleton can't connect the dots. Of course, there will be those who spawned children with off the chart IQ even while swallowing amniotic fluid in the womb!

Clearly not your parents. Methinks you're trying a little too hard to settle old scores by pushing your child.

Wrong again. I challenge my children (and students in all my classrooms just like parents expect in AAP) and they were taught the value of hard work and preparation.

Do you children complain of boredom in their nonchallenging classrooms?

No amount of prepping will turn you kid into Peyton Manning. He preps and he has the ability. No amount of prepping will turn your kid into Albert Einstein. Prepping can turn your kid into my former Dr. who ignored my symptoms of heart disease and angina (crushing chest pains), and sent me home with antacid the week before my heart attack). Oh, he is being sued right now.

The CogAT/FXAT is trying to measure raw potential. It is not particularly good at that. FCPS knows that. Prepping will increase the score, but not the potential. FCPS is aware of this. High scores without the creativity shown in the classroom will not get the kids into AAP. However, high scores and the hard work/demonstrated intelligence will. But moderate scores and demonstrated intelligence will.

Which came first ability or prep?

Should only individuals with ability, aptitude or high IQ be allowed to prep?

Who will decide that one has ability and it is therefore ok to prep like Peyton?

Is this indicated on the driver's license or voting card?

Prep will increase potential, performance, aptitude, IQ, score, and ability by all known man-made metrics. Now, if you start invoking the lord, God, Allah, Yaweh, Chi and the like we enter the realm of the irrational.

Bullshit. Well maybe the measurement. But not the ability. Steve Jobs did not prep for the tests. Albert Einstein did not prep. Heck, Einstein was not a good student.

You are mistaken. You may not have prepared for your tests but Einstein and Jobs certainly did regardless of the brainwashing religious fair tales you have read. I guarantee this.

Think maybe you should have prepped a bit before your response. It's wrong.

Because one is not a good student does not mean they do not prep or try to prep. Some kids prep poorly -- always in front of the TV with headphones and on facebook!

The religious fairytails are that prepping trumps ability. Steve Jobs -- read his biography. He encouraged thinking and experiencing over rigorous prep

...coming from Fairfax County is the capital seat of the test prep industry (ACT, SAT and the like)

It always comes back to reading. I would tell my children to read widely and extensively to become an educated person, not sit around doing test prep.
