Didnt they do a study with babies that showed a clear preference for certain physical attributes over others... like big eyes?
I honestly do not believe it had to do with race. It was for vanity... that's fine too! she should do whatever makes her feel comfortable in her own skin but don't lie about it. |
This It had nothing to do with race. It was likely her own sense of inadequacy with regard to her Asian features - not a rarity given that these types of cosmetic surgery frequently occur in most Asian countries whether or not the recipient works in media. As others have commented she worked in an industry which emphasizes appearance and superficial attributes are important. What is remarkable is how the PC crowd feels a need to pontificate about discrimination against Chen because she is an Asian with certain facial features. I have heard a couple of discussions on TV about this subject and one has the usual tut tutting about what Chen went through but not one person has commented on the fact that she had a nose job as well which made more of an impact on her appearance than did the procedure on her eyes - something that numerous posters have mentioned because it is so obvious. She did not say anything about her nose being raised as an issue. It was vanity more than anything else but she deflects it for whatever reason to her Asian features not fitting the mold. If a white anchor - or would be anchor - had performed cosmetic surgery on her nose or other facial features to enhance her appearance there would not be a peep about it. |
She wasn't not pretty before--just not pretty enough to succeed on TV. |
I don't think she had a nose job, or much other plastic surgery (if any) other than the eyelid lift. She's mastered the art of facelift-via-makeup-contouring.

PP, I think that side by side is post surgery, just her without make up (if it is her).
She most likely had a nose job
|
Try to keep up. Narrowing her nose was also an attempt to look less Asian. And no one's arguing she wasn't trying to look more attractive. Our point is that attractive = Euro features. |
No, no nose job. You can see her contouring here - the makeup lines are rather visible.
|
| She was prettier before. Don't like the fake plastic look |

I don't think she had a nose job. Some slight variation is to be expected over the course of 20 years, but it looks like makeup tricks to me.
Julie Chen without much nose contouring: http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Julie+Chen+Red+Carpet+Arrivals+Hall+Fame+Induction+AvpVRoyw1nUx.jpg Julie Chen with totally overdone nose contouring: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4d/Julie_Chen_Shankbone_2009_Vanity_Fair.jpg |
| To add, you can argue "well, is she using makeup tricks to make herself look more 'white'?" - and that may be a question worth asking. But then again, all women who wear makeup are using makeup tricks to look like something they're not, so you may not really answer anything. |

No nose job. Another bigass photo.

Well she definitely puts contour make up on and probably some (if not all) professional head shots are airbrushed, but her nose definitely looks slightly different to me:

Wow . She was really irretrievably when she was younger. |
WTH, Ispell? Irretrievably = Really Pretty |
