Ariel Castro sentencing hearing happening right now, he's supposed to make a statement and apologize

Uh, I really dislike when people make this statement. Prison is NOT a nice place by any stretch of the imagination. If I was a criminal, I would kill myself before I would go to prison. Trust me, prison is not nice and death would be an easier way to go.

Until now.

I don't know. I get what you're saying, but I think "evil" implies some lack of deliberate choice to commit awfulness. I feel like it implies a sense of being infected with something, rather than assuming total personal responsibility. Castro's choices were strictly his own choices and doing.

No prison is not a nice place. And prison justice can be ugly. Jeffrey Dahmer found that out.

Hahaha I love the judge:

He explained that he was going to impose consecutive sentences to "punish" him and to protect the public...

To Castro " you feel that you the victim you have not been the victim you have been the victimizer"

Let him have it Mr. Judge sir.

With any luck he'll be tormented like Dahmer (sp?) was. But for a longer period of time.

I cannot believe the nerve of this fucking piece of shit to ask the judge to allow contact with the child he produced from raping the child's mother. Remorseless scum.

What happened to Dahmer?

Ariel Castro says to the judge that he going to file for parental rights of Amanda's daughter

Michelle Knight is such an amazingly strong woman. I can only hope to achieve one one-thousandth of her courage, resilience, and strength. I am in awe. I hope he continues to persevere and be an inspiration for others.

Among the most disturbing things, is you can bet that this monster's case is likely not the only one like it. I would bet that there are many, many situations like this happening all over the US - missing people held against their will, tortured, tormented, manipulated and abused for 10+ years.

The perspective that he had and the rationalizations that he makes are what makes it possible for him to act the way he did. If he thought normally he wouldn't have kidnapped and raped and held 3 women for 10 years. Obviously in his mind he had to frame those actions in a way that made sense to him.

Yes. She is sitting on the benches with her supporters. When she spoke she came up to the stand and spoke to the judge. I soooo wanted her to turn around and look Castro directly in the eye and speak to him.

I missed her speaking. What did she say?

That she missed her 2.5 year old son terribly, that she cried every day and night. That he tormented her in every way; including taunting her that no one gives a damn about her, that she was forgotten.
That her friendship with Gina got her through, that they were teammates, that she was nursed back to life by her after he nearly killed her with his abuse.
That they promised to each other that they will come out alive and they did! That her life begins now, and that he will now die a little day by day.

This brings tears to my eyes. No word to describe these women other than amazing.

+1. Typical arrogant criminal mentality--they totally believe they are right and the victim deserved it.
