The plea deal also makes it so the victims do not have to testify. It also saves a significant amount of tax money by being further wasted on this fucking piece of shit. As far as I know once he accepts the plea deal, that's it. No appeals. No death sentence. Unless he maybe gets charged with something new for committing crimes in prison, but that would be a separate case. |
That she missed her 2.5 year old son terribly, that she cried every day and night. That he tormented her in every way; including taunting her that no one gives a damn about her, that she was forgotten. That her friendship with Gina got her through, that they were teammates, that she was nursed back to life by her after he nearly killed her with his abuse. That they promised to each other that they will come out alive and they did! That her life begins now, and that he will now die a little day by day. |
He's a manipulative bastard. He even referenced the same himself while speaking. That poor woman, her life sucked prior to Castro, and it sucked then. Not sure where her strength is coming from, but I pray it continues. |
She described how she longed to be free then days to turned into nights and then into years. How here son was only 2 when she was abducted and she missed him very much and longed to see him. How she and Gina relied on each other as "partners" to get through the hard times. When she couldnt go on any longer Gina helped her get through. How Castro is a hypocrite doing this to them and then going to church every sunday. She thanked all of her supporters. |
| I don't understand why he was allowed to have a deal if he took no ownership for his actions, to blame the victims shows what a monster he is- he should have been put to death. 1000 years in prison isnt enought since he will have cable tv, internet and 3 square meals a day which is far more than his victims had for 10 years. |
Michelle stated that she preferred that he get life in jail. She said death would be the easy way out! |
| Did he think by pleading guilty he's get a lighter sentence or something. He's making excuses and claiming he's not guilty of things he's already plead guilty to. |
Well he took the deal in order to avoid the death penalty |
Death for Michelle (and also in my opinion) is such a cop out. Too easy of a way out, plus more expensive, and too long of a process. Now, if he could be put in front of a firing squad today with no further discussion, I think that would be spectacular. But locked up, with no freedom, and he'll probably get a lot of shit from other inmates for the rest of his useless life - that is actually worse. He's still fairly young - he could easily spend 30-40 years until his death being locked with his own insane mind. |
The plea deal was stated up front - choose life + 1000 years, or a trial that may lead to death. |
No, it isn't enough, but he was "allowed" to have the deal so the victims don't have to go through the trial. As long as he's never ever getting out, it was probably far preferable for them to be able to focus on healing and recovering, rather than dealing with any real time crap related to him. A death penalty case would go on for decades. |

Im still thinking about how awesome Michelle is!
She is a courageous young woman. To be in court with that monster and read her statement and to have the strenght to get through her statement without being a complete mess. Wishing the best for Michelle and the other two victims! They are survivors and they are so strong. |
Yes Michelle's strength is amazing "Ive got my life" Take that Castro take that |

I watched part of his statement, but had to turn it off because I could not take how callous this man is. I cannot believe that a predator like him was able to walk around freely for so many years. I think life is prison without the possibility of parole is a just sentence for him. I could tell by listening to him that this is something he truly fears and it will be a just punishment. I think, the three women knew him very well and when they agreed to this plea deal, they knew that this was going to be hell for him as it should. Like Michelle stated "I lived in hell for 11 years; your hell is just beginning..." I think, she is right....

I never really bought into the whole "evil" thing. Mentally I'll, sure, sociopathic, etc. But I always thought labeling someone as "evil" was a bit melodramatic and Victorian.
Until now. |
