Best Bucatini Carbonara EVER! |
I suppose if "Spagetti with Spagetti Sauce" is your idea of "real Italian food" then you're spot-on. Sure, San Marco had dishes like Pappardelle al Cinghiale, with actual house-made pappardelle, and was as cheap or cheaper than Past Mia. But on the other hand, Pasta Mia always had (has?) a line going around the block--like Georgetown Cupcakes! And we know how much people like to think they're participating in a cultural phenomenon... (The chef at San Marco was brought over from Florence, btw.) |
Ha! Quigley's is a stretch as a restaurant. I thought one of the reasons they closed is that they sold too much beer in the food to beer ratio. Something about licensing bars vs. restaurants. |
| San Marco was great. I also miss David Greggory, specifically the monthly bacon dinner. |
| If we can expand this pubs/bars ... Polly's on U st and Timberlakes on Connecticut. |

Hamburger Hamlet in Friendship Heights
Shakey's in Bethesda Place in the Bethesda Air Rights Bldg that sold a pita called the "Fuzbee." Magic Pan in FH Gifford's in Bethesda Farrell's off River Road |
| Oh, and thanks for reminder of Maestro also. |

Yenching Palace
Def agree on Sarris' Orleans House. Loved the shrimp basket. The huge salad bar.... OMG. |
Shanghai Village, further west on Bethesda Avenue, is the same owner, menu, everything. And whomever mentioned Houston's in Bethesda: Woodmont Grill is almost exactly the same. |
To get your fix... A brand new Roy Rogers opened recently in Burtonsville (Spencerville Rd/Old Columbia Pike) |
LOVED this place! |
| Chi Chis! I loved their chips and salsa and fried ice cream. |
| Wolf Trap Cafe/Deli, in Vienna. |
| OP, as soon as I saw your post, I thought, "AV'"! |
