Is the quality of the Blair Magnet Program going down?

Blair Magnet with 300 % X (three times or three fold) the performance of Poolesville by the metric above.

Case rested.

The US News rankings show one is falling and the other is rising. No one disputes that. The Intel semifinalists list for Blair keeps getting smaller. The kids from Whitman, Wootton, Churchill and BCC don't seem to pay much attention to these competitions. MAGNETS ARE USEFUL. WE NEED THEM. I THINK THE POINT IS THAT MCPS HAS LET BLAIR DECLINE.

C'MON, LET ARGUE FOR BLAIR REGAINING ITS FORMER GLORY.

Oy!! Please RIP, because your logic is flawed. You have to compare the % of mag students winning the awards. Even then, the US News and Intel semifinalists metric is showing Blair is going down.

If you want to prove to me that Blair is a good school district tell me about the non-magnet kids.

Taking the best kids in the county and putting them in one place and then using them to show the school is a good school is smoke and mirrors.

US News rankings is all one needs to know regarding the lack of scientific validity of any nonsense you spew.

I would expect you could do better. I'm sure even a student from Poolesville understands the relevance of methodology and scientific validity. US News bible and marketing rankings is really scraping the bottom of the scientific pit in this regard. Don't you agree?

People, when you reach the point that you are posting lists of kid's names and then drawing conclusions based on the ethnicity of the names, you have clearly lost any sense of decency. I've removed messages that crossed that particular line. Please don't post any more.

I think the US News rankings is useful and have meaning but its only one of several factors to consider. As noted by one poster, the school is not the magnet. Blair's magnet is untouchable in this area. Poolesville is rising and should be even better in years to come as Montgomery county "fill out". But to say Poolesvilles overall school performs better than Blairs is a different matter than saying Poolesvilles magnet outperforms Blairs. It doesn't no matter how you want to look at it.

The same thing goes with some of these magnets for younger kids which in some instances the schools are horrible but the magnet itself is a class apart.

Blair is as diverse as realistically possible... Its essentially 25% AS, 25% WH, 25% BL, 25% HS, and any suggesting that the 25% of the WH is in the magnet is ridiculous.

Poolesville on the other hand is 60% WH, 23% AS, 5% BL, 7% HS, if the magnet is making the school diverse and BL and HS is only 10% what is the base population consist of?

FYI, Norhtwood which is extremely close to Blair in Silver Spring with no magnet program is 20% WH.

60% white is not diverse but 75% people of color is diverse. Oh Okay that makes sense. You can't have it both ways.

You don't own diversity down county. I don't know why you think you have cornered the market on diversity.

I am new to this thread but I couldn't let this go uncommented upon. Yes, 75% people of color (25% asian, 25% black, 25% hispanic) and 25% white is the very definition of diverse. You can go to school wherever you want, but math is math.

And you have just described all the schools that feed into Poolesville magnet. Thanks for pointing out how diverse we are upcounty.

Either was Blair when they started their magnet program. Everybody knows it is a busing program.

Who cares.... The point is pp said poolesville was diverse and it was a bold faced lie. Whether Blair was diverse or not in the past is of no consequence.
