No, it used to be, but that is no longer true. Google it. Now, it's #45. Not something to brag about, but let Mississippi and Alabama fight it out for last place. 45 isn't much, but it's on the way up. |
Kids' grades (at least on the high school level) and many other important papers come to the parents via mail in FCPS. |
The Virginia college and University system asks a lot more than a beach house in VA beach. They are well aware of the games that are played. Just because we own a small house in Nellysford, VA, does not mean that our son can apply to UVA from Nellysford, VA (he would be a far more attractive candidate coming from Nellysford, VA than McLean, VA). We would have had to do at least an entire year's worth of school out of the second house there for the Virginia system to even think it credible. As it was, when we applied to UVA and others, we had to provide our address, no. of years in residence, and the precise date we had moved into the McLean house more than 20 years ago. |
I think the good news here, is that someone who lives in McLean identifies with the DC public schools.

"Entitled"? It's not about "entitlement" WHEN YOU PAID FOR IT. For example, the Republicans call Social Security an "entitlement" even though we've paid in to it our whole working lives. Basically an analogy would be for you to say it would be fine for Congress to take your Social Security away and spend it on something else, and the fact that you've paid into it for years means nothing, and that you are an "entitled asshole" for thinking otherwise. |
| Its very simple. If your PRIMARY residence is in DC, you may attend DC schools. If it is not, you can not. Period. |
Actually, the correct analogy would be if you decided that because you had paid into Social Security that you should just be entitled to withdraw whatever you wanted from it, at any age. You do not get to make up new rules because you feel entitled to do so. |
|
No, that's incorrect, it's not about withdrawing whatever you want, at any age and nobody even remotely suggested anything like that - it's about getting the SAME benefit back that others get.
I don't advocate making up one's own rules, but I have no problem with pointing out the disparity created by the rules, that many of the people paying for the benefit are being denied said benefit. For all the breathless talk about haves and have nots, it's property owners who end up treated as second class citizens by the rules. To turn the question on its' head, maybe they should get a reduction on their property taxes, since they are being denied the benefits they pay for. |
| So should all DINKs, singles, retirees, they are all paying for services that they don't receive any benefits for. Let's cut property taxes for all but parents of school-age children!!!! |
Thank you for pointing this out. Payment, or non-payment, of taxes has nothing to do with whether a person's kids are entitled to attend a specific public school. You are entitled to attend the public school where you reside. Period. I can't speak for any other schools, but I know that a if a family moves out of DC at our highly sought-after charter school, they will not be permitted to attend anymore, even if they offer to pay tuition. And they sure won't be permitted to retain a spot from year to year. |
You didn't pay for it dickhead. The tenants who pay rent are paying for it. This has been explained to you about 4 million times in this thread. The fact that you are too fucking stupid to get it is frightening. I can't believe dumbasses like you get to vote, because you have the reasoning ability of a 2 year old. |
And you have the vocab. of a frustrated jail bird. Hope you're not a parent at any of the schools, but that would explain the potty mouth on so many kids nowadays. Sad!!!! |
Well, EXCUUUUUSE us poor scumbag taxpayers for pitching in our hard-earned dolalrs to prop the whole world up. Obviously in your own child-like reasoning and magical thinking, you seem to think money to pay for all these benefits just falls from the sky. |
I am a parent in DC schools, and I am smart enough to know when adult language is appropriate and when it is not. When someone is as stupid, arrogant and entitled as you, I think it is totally appropriate. Call names all you want, but you and your uninformed, ignorant opinions are in the vast minority here. So keep on believing that you are the superior one if it gets you through the day. |
| This person is obviously a troll, so I am going to back away. I'm glad to see that the majority of parents on this board understand how residency works. |
