Bullshit. There are tons of great looking women out there who are long past menopause. It's an excuse. Take care of yourself, not because you're worried that your husband will cheat, but because it's important. My mom and her friends are in their 70s and are still attractive because they care about it. Holly P. let herself become a frump - it didn't cause her husband to cheat, but it certainly couldn't have helped. You can be frumpy in your 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. When I see younger women rocking their mom jeans, wearing no makeup, gaining weight, etc. I wonder why they don't care about themselves.

It's not "bullshit." It's a biological fact. Most people who look that way eat practically nothing. That's a fact.

Regardless, you don't cheat. You have respect for your spouse and yourself. Divorce if you're that unhappy.

this thread is gross. that poor woman was cheated on and has to live through it in the public eye. having people say she is at all to blame because she didn't look like a teenager anymore is just beyond disgusting.

I didn't read all of the responses here, but I think there was more to this affair that just 'looks'.

Holly is a 60 year old woman and Paula is 40 years old. 60 year old women will NEVER look like 40 year old women. NEVER! My neighbor is 60 and she works for a plastic surgeon. She had a LOT of work done and she looks fabulous (size 2). She is extremely attractive and she works out all the time and eats super healthy. I hope that I will look as good as her when I turn 60, but even with all that, she does not look 40 and she IS not 40. One cannot compare 60 vs. 40. It's BS!

Going through menopause will change a woman. I have not gone through it because I'm way too young, but I know women who have and it will change you whether you like it or not. One cannot stop aging.

I feel bad for Holly because it hurts to be cheated on and it hurts to be compared to a woman 20 years younger. Her husband made a terrible mistake, but I have a feeling that they will make it through this.

I'm not so sure about Paula's marriage though.....

I'm pretty sure mrs petraus looked that way her whole life...and so did her husband (who isn't attractive either...he is just fit). He was able to land a younger more attractive mistress because of his powerful position. This has nothing to do with looks. If he were a sales guy at best buy he never would have landed a young mistress.

To those who say that looks don't matter. Then why after a divorce or a breakup do women hit the gym hard, get a complete makeover, etc. If you need to do it to attract the next mate, you should put the same effort into attracting your current partner. I know relationships become comfortable, but you can never become complacent. ESPECIALLY when your husband is extremely fit. You get a pass when your husband is overweight like you and you two just grow old together. But look at how fit he is.

If exercise is too much to ask, at least take heed of some beauty tips and get a new hair style. Freshen up a bit.

GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE! He's been married 38 years, his wife raised his two children while he worked long hours, traveled all over, she was there to suppert him and raise the children and she should worry about an extra 10 or 20 pound now?!!
I think he was ego hungry and had a 40 year old hanging on his every word and thinking he was so great at his disposable. Especially while over in Afghanistan/Irag/wherever. I'm sure there was some downtime! It was a matter of being an ego boost and an easy situation that presented itself.
Now the question will be if he has wrecked his marriage or if his wife of 38 years will find it in her heart to stay with him.
The looks of the other woman usually doesn't matter, its the ego boost and the fact that they can.
