Don't get fat and happy just because you've been married for over 20 years.

If exercise is too much to ask, at least take heed of some beauty tips and get a new hair style. Freshen up a bit.

Clearly, you know very little about women's health.

Besides menopause, there are metabolic disorders such as PCOS, which are completely beyond a woman's control.

And anyway, his wife, the love of his life, the woman who withstood deployment after deployment, who devoted her life to him and to their children, she should ALWAYS be beautiful to him.

Are people really so shallow as to base faithful love on physical appearances??

And all of this bashing on Veteran's Day, of all days...

Yes, it's completely absurd. Her husband starts believing the mythology about himself that he created and he can't keep his dick in his pants and then falls in with someone who appears to be mentally unstable. And it's the wife's fault?

I didn't know that Petraeus was such a weak-willed son of a bitch that he was unable to ask his wife for a divorce if she happened to gain weight and such a moron that he was unable to find someone stable to cheat with. We definitely shouldn't have a fool like that running the CIA.

Really? I don't see how these two incidents have anything to do with each other.

Right, she "should" always be beautiful to him. Big difference between "should" and "is."

What's this crap about "Veteran's Day," of all days. Nobody's bashing the veterans in this picture.

Her haircut is horrible! I think that's much worse than some middle age pudge.

Are you rich? Or is your DH fat too?

Why would a guy marry a fat woman? Are you a Walmart couple?

He is thin. We had nothing when we married but are well off now, each earning about 50% of our HHI. He has a doctorate and I have an MBA. We don't shop at Walmart. We have an active social life and sex life, go on regular date nights and support each other in life and as we raise our children. And I am defintely fat. Groomed, but fat. It can happen and our life is good.

Right on, PP. It was none other than Petraeus' fault. For all we know, he told Holly that he liked it when she gained weight. Plenty of men like their women with a few extra pounds.
(Now we all join in a chorus of 'Big-Bottomed Woman' by Spinal Tap)

Joking aside, he wasn't smart enough to manage his personal life well. It's the oldest story in the book - lust will bring down the most powerful men.

That, of course, is why we need more women in power

His wife could have been fit and beautifully "maintained" and he still would have cheated. His infidelity had nothing to do with his wife's current looks. It had to do with HIM.

Just look at Halle Berry and Cindy Brinkley and Elin, Tiger's wife to know that beautiful women get cheated on too!

Because he dishonored his wife, dishonored his position, dishonored the veterans who have displayed virtue, and dishonored the sacrifices his wife made for him and our country. Veterans Day is to honor sacrifice, and courage, and commitment. He disgraced himself, but on this thread, his wife, a veteran military spouse, is being bashed for not looking as physically attractive as she did when she vowed to be true to him her whole life 38 years ago.

It's like calling right wrong and wrong right. It's disturbing.

Look, I've gained too much weight in the 15 years I've been married. It's my fault and I'm working on it BUT this isn't a betrayal of my husband. When he met me I was thin and pretty but I NEVER worked out, had a raging sweet tooth, and never wore make up. He knew all that. That lazy life style was no problem for a cute 23 year old but it doesn't cut it at my age now.

I did not falsely represent myself - maybe it was similar for Holly.

Yes, this, thank you! Like many other idiots in power, Clinton, Tiger Woods, etc. he thought he was untouchable and narcissistic and he's dearly paying for it

Please. His wife is not a veteran. Petraeus is the veteran, and is responsible for prosecuting at least two wars at least as successfully as anybody could. So he banged a sweet young thing. BFD. That's really between his wife and him. FDR banged Lucy Mercer. MLK had a girl friend. JFK, and apparently RFK, were hose monsters. By your logic we'd write them all off as "disgraces" and not worthy of honor for their "sacrifice, courage, and commitment."

I am an Army brat. Many of the generals we knew were on second trophy wives. Seemed like a lot of them had one woman raise their kids and get them through the really tough years. Don't know if the hard years did in their first marriages or if it was an ego boost to marry a hottie later. I remember helping my mom with Officers' Wives Club activities as a teenager and wondering how some if these men could have married such bimbos...

This must be a hard time for both families. I hope they can all find a way to make it through and forgive one another.
