| Not an issue in my house. My kids don't really like juice. One drinks it every once in a while; the other not at all. I think if you don't have it in your house but allow your child to have it when she wants it at times when she's out, she'll be fine. It won't be forbidden, but it won't be seen as something that is normally eaten. |
| I drank a lot of juice as a kid. I have a ton of cavities and have spent thousands of dollars as an adult on root canals and other dental work. Juice is a once in a while treat for my kids and they don't mind at all. |
I drank juice and soda as a kid, I have a three-coke-a-day habit now (also drink juice and put sugar in my coffee) and have NEVER had a cavity. (not overweight, either.) Therefore your experience is invalid. (anecdote =/= data) |
| My two year old would NOT drink cow's milk. He would drink orange juice with calcium. |
I don't think the experience is invalid -- just shows what a fool she is for not brushing her teeth. Duh. |

I love how many moms are rushing to this thread to say how awesome they are for not allowing their 2 year olds to drink juice. Come back when your kids are 10.
|
| I love that ok with calcium really is equivalent to juice for some people.... |

I'm so sick of the moms that give me the stink-eye when they see see my kids drinking juice!
My youngest daughter has been constipated since birth and two different GI specialists have told us that we must give her apple, pear and prune juice, in addition to her OTC meds and fiber. My other daughter is a fainter due to low blood pressure. She also doesn't like to drink anything...and has been that way since she was a toddler. The heart specialist said she must stay well hydrated to keep up her blood volume. We battle with her daily to drink water and milk but when it's hot out we have to turn to juice to keep her drinking something. I have had friends come over to my house and make strange comments about the juice in our fridge. On hot summer days at the pool I've had friends act annoyed that our daughters are drinking juice boxes in front of their kids. You'd think i was letting my kids snort coke next to their children! People needed to stop assuming they know better than everyone else. |
Just laugh at those loser moms. THEY are the ones with the problem. |
I'm moderately concerned about my child's lack of weight gain -- 5th %ile BMI is not normal for him and I am trying to encourage him to eat and drink more calories! Most of his life his weight was in the 25th %ile and now is at the 5th %ile so no, that is not normal for him. I do encourage him to drink juice because everyone seems to think it is high calorie -- I don't see the juice as being "empty calories" though. He drinks "Naked" juice green machine primarily; about 1/2 of a serving so about 70 calories and a decent amount of vitamins. http://nakedjuice.com/our-products/juice/green-machine He also drinks a lot of milk so he gets some protein and much calcium. |
Your juice sounds delicious. Where are you from? |
It's called a joke. |
| I keep juice in the house. 95% of the time we offer water or milk. Fruit puréed fine. I keep the juice because when my son is sick I can push liquids by offering juice. like today, he has a 102 fever and the only thing he will eat or drink is juice. In a situation like this, thank g-d for juice!! |
What is your point? We should be giving our kids 3 cokes a day so they can be like you. |
The PP to whom I was responding (whose post you conveniently left out) was suggesting that if we give our kids juice, they would be like her. See how silly that is when you (I) turn it around? |
