A mother of three boys, 8, 10, and 12. Trust me. I know boys. My house is usually full of boys. Boys from soccer, gymnastics, the church youth choir, the neighborhood, and none of them are interested in wearing shearling or flats. I am assuming that those of you proclaiming the joys of uggs and toms for your sons have boys in the 5 and under age group, where mom has a strong influence and peer pressure hasn't crept in yet.

I have just bought this boots for my 1st grade son, and he loves it:

http://www.amazon.com/BEARPAW-Meadow-Toddler-Little-Hickory/dp/B00IXJA3NE/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1420350843&sr=1-3&keywords=boots+kids

No complaints of teasing.

I'd make fun of your son if you put him in uggs. Sorry just being honest.

True - not much peer pressure yet for my 5yo boy in Uggs. But I didn't influence him at all - I don't have any shoes or boots like that at all. 100% his decision because they were comfy and warm.

My first exposure to Uggs was in Australis 20 years ago when my boyfriend put them on on the way to surf. It was warm (isn) out. He also came out of the water and we took off our suits and he put on a tonga type skirt! (he was not native)

I was thinking ~ who is this weirdo I am dating in the boots and this SKIRT? I'm AMERICAN????'
Now? everyone is wearing them. My little sister started wearing them and I was like " This is IT. This means that UGGS suck, in america, now that I am back. I won't get them.

And I didn't. For like 14 years. Then? I was pregnant and due in late winter………..and I got the stupid uggs."

Mo sons? When they want to go surf with me? They can have uggs.

Conversely, if you want to make certain that he gets practice in dealing with teasing, have him wear Uggs in the winter and Crocs as soon as spring comes around. Complete the look with a militant enviro-satchel!

hey! I get the UGG part and agree, but what's wrong with Crocs?

Force him to wear UGG style only if you want to use it as a hardship to make your son mentally stronger as he sure will receive a lot of tease. Don't underestimate the cruelty of kids.

All you parents who say "Uggs are for girls" and "your boy will get teased if he wears Uggs" where do kids learn this behavior? Clearly, they learn it from ignorant, small-minded people like you. Ugg boots are worn by super cool masculine surfer boys in other parts of the country (and other parts of the world). People here are so square and conservative...such a bummer to live here sometimes.

This is literally the most pathetic thread on DCUM tonight... and that's saying a lot. All this bizarre sexist vitriol for a neutral-colored, unadorned leather boot. (Now they're hideous and about 4 times more expensive than what I'd want to spend on a kid's boot, but that's another thread...) Can we just let up policing the frgging footwear of a first grader? Glad my DS is only 1.5 so I don't have to hear this bullshit yet.

My son us 5 ( October baby), goes to preschool and wears Uggs in winters. I haven't heard any teasing or complaints even once. Uggs are unisex btw, god these PPs must be living under a rock.

and my son would make fun of how you look!!

I just asked my 9yo boy if boys can wear Uggs, and he scoffed, "That would be like a boy wearing flats."

That said, I'm not sure first-graders would make fun.

Can we just say that Ugg boots are just that: ugly. Just don't buy them at all yuck. There's plenty of warm, comfy boots out there that don't look like you're wearing indoor slippers outside.
